I looked on ancestry.com and found there are 2 listings for James Montgomery on the 1820 census. For the name "Elder" there are also 2 listings James, none for David. 1830- also 2 listing for James Montgomery; Elder: one listing for James, none for David. Do you have an approximate date of birth?
