Once word got back that Texas was a good deal the kinfolks and friends would follow. Many of my SUMMERS kin migrated down the same path. I think the hardships of Reconstruction (after the Civil War) were a big factor that sent many of my ancestors to Cherokee Co, TX from Carlocksville (Big Springs) TN, though many went to TX earlier. There were (and still are) strong ties between Tennessee & Texas. Even today, our accents are simular. There is also a YEARWOOD that married into our SUMMERS line way back and I think they were some of the bunch that ended up in TX.
