My fathers maternal family, Abstons were there and John Abston married Frances Thurman in 1789 in that County. He later moved to Cumberland Co., KY and then to TN and died In TX. in his late 90's. He served in War of 1812 and filed for a pension because of it. I also have some info on a Laban Thurman and a Polly Thurman and a mention of a will of Richard Thurman in 18??, naming a daughter Frances Thurman. My Abstons wound up in Overton, Co., TN. Lipscomb Petit Abston, my GGG GF married the G GD of John Sevier, 1st Gov. of TN. and his 1st wife Sarah Hawkins. If you think these Pittsylvania Thurmans might be yours I will be happy to send the data that I have.
