This might be more than you wanted to know, but (ahem)...... Robert Overall's ancestry can be traced back to Virginia, and to England. A ggg uncle of his was John Overall (b.1559 d.1819. Norwich England) In 1604, Bishop John Overall was appointed by King James I as one of the translators of the King James Version of the Bible. Robert's parents were Nathaniel Overall (1758-1835) and Anne Thomas (d.1844) Nathaniel was a signer of the Cumberland Compact of Government at Nashborough May 1, 1780. He and his future wife Anne Thomas participated in the "Battle of the Bluffs" , defending the future Nashville, Tn. against Indian attack on April 2, 1781. They were married at Nashboro in 1783 , had several children, including Robert (b. 1785). Before 1800, they had settled at "Hall's Hill" in an area later part of Rutherford Co. On 12/22/1804 they bought 100 acres in this area. (Ruth. Deed Book A, #45). Other land deals were with John Donelson (Book G pg 104) and Andrew Jackson (Book G pg 277), both selling Nathaniel property. sources: D.A.R. records #385538 History of Rutherford Co. by Simms Overall Family Hist.Notes by Virginia Ramsey McGee, Jackson ,Tn. 1908 -- Jess Lewis >> http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/ << >> http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/cannon.htm <<
