Ginger, I am very interested in your message about the Wood family. John T. Gregory, son of Thomas Gregory and Mahala Wood, said in a Civil War veterans questionnaire that Mahala's mother was a Smotherman and her father was John Wood. I am pretty sure this John Wood had two wives. Some where I got the idea that her name was Elizabeth. I don't know that to be true. I don't know who could be her parents. John Smotherman (b. about 1769 VA, d. 1833 Rutherford Co, TN) is one of five brothers. The children of three of the brothers are proved. John is the one most likely to be the father of this (Elizabeth?) Wood. Have you ever encountered this woman in your research?
