    1. Millington and John Smith-Rutherford early 1800's
    2. Hello everyone. I am researching some Smith's in Rutherford Co. My John Smith was born in 1801, probably in Dinwiddie Co., VA. One source gives his parentage as John Smith and Mary Puckett but I have been unable to substantiate this. This same source also says he had brothers named Ludwell, James, and Williamson and a sister named Nancy who married John Mosby in Rutherford in 1816. I think that my John may actually be the son of Millington and Elizabeth Matthews Smith. Millington's will recorded there in Rutherford names sons Ludwell, Williamson, and Alexander. My John Smith(1801) married Sarah S. Puckett 1828 in Rutherford. They had two children: James Arthur and John Puckett. Sarah was the daughter of Arthur and Lucy Puckett. Sarah died c1834 and John remarried in Shelby CO., TN and removed to Madison Co., MS. In 1860 he made a trip back to his old homeplace "about ten miles from Murfreesboro, Tenn." and on June 18, 1860 he died there. This information came from his obituary in Madison Co., MS. Does anyone know anything about these Smith's or if there might be a possible obituary from a TN newspaper at that time that may shed some light on my John Smith's family? Any and all help welcome. Thanks, Tracy MacDonald
