    1. Re: [TNRUTHER] ROLL CALL - McCullough
    2. Deborah, James D. McCullough, married Mary Davis as his 2nd wife. They later separated and he married a third time. He was the son of Alexander McCullough (b. 15 Aug 1770; d. after the 1850 census and before 8 Nov 1850 Rutherford Co., TN) and Susannah Nance (b. 10 Aug 1781 VA; d. after the 1850 census, Rutherford Co., TN). He moved with his parents, Alexander and Susannah (Nance) McCullough, to Rutherford Co, TN from Henry Co., VA about 1815. James D. McCullough died 20 July 1892 in Rutherford Co., Tennessee and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro. James D. and Mary (Davis) McCullough's daughter Isabella married Henry A. Crouse on 5 Oct 1857 in Rutherford Co., TN. Below is an excerpt from a book written by William R. Rushing (now deceased.) Hope this helps. I know very little about Mary Davis and her descendants - any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Rebecca Christensen THE DESCENDANTS OF ALEXANDER McCULLOUGH OF HENRY COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1983, by William R. Rushing, pp..9-10 "James D. McCULLOUGH (my great-grandfather) was born Feb. 13, 1807, in Henry County, VA. He lived and died on the old home place about six miles out of Murfreesboro where he farmed and acquired other land. He was considered well off when he died as he left each of his children a farm or other valuables (see will in the Appendix). He was married three times, first to Catherine G. McFADDEN, Dec. 16, 1830, in Williamson County, Tennessee. She must have died or run away; there is no further reference to her in his family Bible. Their issue: Susan Carolina, Sara Jane F. Jimmie's second married to Mary DAVIS Feb. 13, 1838, was unhappy. They had one girl, Isabella, and separated. He is reported to have said she was so mean he couldn't live with her. James' third wife was a widow, Nancy C. YANDELL ZACHARY, born Jan. 31, 1818, who had one daughter, Martha. James and Nancy were married Dec. 26, 1843, and James raised Nancy's daughter as one of his own. James' and Nancy's issue: Mary Ann Elizabeth (Mollie), John Wesley, James Porter, George Dilliston, Nancy Alice. Alexander, Sr., died intestate and his son Isaac was appointed administrator of the estate. James evidently acquired the old home place of Alexander, Sr., as well as other of his holdings from the other heirs. Alex, Sr., died July 20, 1892 [this is incorrect -- it is James D. McCullough's death date], Susannah sometime later. James died July 20, 1892, and Nancy died Dec. 31, 1888. The latter two are both buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee. The 1860 census of Rutherford County lists Nancy Alice as 3 months old; also as a part of James' household a Nancy NEWMAN, age 58, Frank, age 20, and Cat (female), age 19. The latter two are assumed to by Nancy NEWMAN's children. Who she was is not known, possibly a nurse for the baby and help for Nancy McCULLOUGH who is listed as age 41, somewhat old for bearing children. James is listed as age 57. The 1870 census lists a William, age 13, and a James WHITE, age 48, the latter born in England,as part of the household. No relationship is known for the two." He apparently dies before 1850ish as he is not in some estate papers. Mary Davis McCullough continues with the name of McCullough. She raised her family on - don't know the names of her children - have you run into them >>
