Hey Rex, I thought those counties sounded familiar. I had Burwells in the first two counties. It would have been a bit older though. They came over from England in the 1600s. I've seen a Burwell Barfield a few times and wondered. Mari Burwell Byers At 02:02 PM 10/10/2006, you wrote: >Rex-Who were the Barfields? Mari- I am heading out of town right now, my Bro-In-Law passed away. When we get back I will look up some info and send. I remember a Thomas Barfield who lived close to some Phillips and I think witnessed some land deeds of each other but will have to look to make sure. I do know that there were several Barfields in the area and I think I found a site that was mostly Barfields. Mari- I have run across a bunch of Barfields in 1700's in Isle of Wight, Southampton and Surry Couties in Virginia in researching my Phillips line in VA. My GGGG GF, William Phillips died abt. 1805 in Brunswick Co, VA . His widow, my GGGG GM, was Nancy James Phillips. In 1812 she and some of her James siblings came to RU Co, TN along with 3 of her 4 children. My GGG GF, Wm. J. Phillips was one of the 3 and he m. Mary A. Ross in RU Co. in 1831. A son, John L. m. 1.) Lockey Crawford in RU and after she died 2.)a Verginia Rucker. Phillips migrated on from Ru to Gibson Co. in 1860's and 70's. So did some of the James family. Thank you, thank you! Maybe we should have a Founder's Day parade :) Maybe old Williams would show up. His parents were big on using last names as first names. He was for sure from the South! Ok, the grave stone is off to the right if you're leaving the mall...It's down further toward Memorial. Two streets kinda cross and it makes it hard to look down at the stone. It's well kept. Ken pitches a hissy if i even mention going down there. You have to look fast out the front passenger window...and look DOWN. Is it close to a church on Thompson Lane? If so, that's Julius Wade (1820-1879). I visited once, took pictures. Drives my husband crazy! He doesn't understand my fascination with old cemeteries. The church is doing a large construction project, so I called them the other day just to ensure that the grave would not be disturbed and access to the gravesite would still be available.. They assured me he wouldn't be disturbed! Lori Mari Byers <keyofbflat@comcast.net> wrote: Thank you, thank you! Maybe we should have a Founder's Day parade :) Maybe old Williams would show up. Two streets kinda cross and it makes it hard to look down at the stone. It's well kept. Ken pitches a hissy if i even mention going down there. Somehow I've missed that grave! What is it close to on Old Fort? Your ggggrandfather gets my vote as the person Barfield is named for! Lori, It could be Beesley Rd. How do I get there? I would assume it's between Murfreesboro and Christiana. How far off am I? I'd love to come watch the moving of the log house and i know a prof at MTSU who would also love to see it. Mari, I'm not sure of the exact location of the cabin, but Beesley Rd is off of 96. Coming from Murfreesboro on Old Fort, you would cross I-24 and turn right on Beesley. Hope that helps!
