Linda, Who is in your Steel line? I have Steele in my line. Nancy STEELE married to Charles M. HALLl. Her brother Samuel STEELE was the father of James STEELE who married Judidah H. WOOD and Rebecca STEELE who married Thomas J. WOOD - both of these are my WOOD line. I've found the name in records as "Steele" and "Steel" among other variations. My grandmother's sister Sophonia Blanche Dwyer married Baptize ___ Compton in the later 1890's. They lived in Marshall County. I hope this helps. I have his middle name, just can't remember it now. I have their children's name and maybe death dates. I think most were buried at Short Cemetery, Springplace (Archer is its official name) in southern Marshall County, TN. Hope this can help. Researching Thomas, Travis, Northcott. I am looking for information on G.W. Thomas, b. June 9, 1838 and died June 10, 1922 at age 84 and buried in Sanford Cemetery in Rutherford county. His mother was Lucy Thomas and father unknown. I think he may be a brother to my g.g. grandfather Zachariah Thomas who lived in Rutherford Co. and whose mother was also Lucy Thomas and father is unknown. Jim Thomas
My Rutherford Co lines are Toliver Ferguson who married Catherine Winters, Amanda Melvina McCullough who married Mansfield Ferguson (s/o Toliver), Thomas Hall who married Mary Jane Ward, and Jacob Chistopher Hall (s/o Thomas) who married Mary Ida (Molly) Ownby (d/o Samuel Mortimer). Hi List According to the website for the Sam Davis home in Smyrna, the father of Sam Davis was Charles Lewis Davis. Does anyone know who his father was? I'm wondering if it was Lewis Davis who died in 1834 - with the middle name of Lewis. Lewis and his family all seemed to settle in the northern part of Rutherford Co Tn along Bradley Creek. Does anyone know if Smyrna is any where near Bradleys Creek? Thanks Deborah+
Hello Nancy Delilah Davis and Elizabeth Davis both married Jones men - as you probably know. Delilah Davis married Henry Davis and Elizabeth was the second wife of Spotswood Jones. Elizabeth and Delilah were sisters - and I suspect that Spotswoods and Henry were brothers. Spotswood and his family migrated back to Cumberland Co KY by 1830 and I lose them after that. But Henry I have a lot of information on - as the estate administration of his father in law, Lewis Davis, mentions Henry several times. I believe this line of Jones connects back to Hanover Co Va - through Landy Jones, their father. Hi Mari The Jones family that I am researching has ties back to Cumberland Co KY - along with a couple other young men after the War of 1812, they came to Rutherford Co TN from Cumberland Co KY and stayed until just before 1830 and returned to Cumberland. Do you know of any Jones families that this sounds like or do you know any other families with ties to Cumberland Co KY? I am interested in the Jones families of Rutherford County. I have a Jones family that originated in North Carolina, moved to Tennessee about 1803, and to Wayne County, Mississippi about 1813. There is a possibility they lived in Rutherford County while in Tennessee. James Jones and Mary [remote possibility of surname--Mayfield] Children: James, born 1795, North Carolina Wiley John Brittan Alfred Chloe, born 1803, North Carolina Alson, definately born in Tennessee in 1805 Ralph, abt.1807, Tennessee ? If these names connect to any of the Rutherford County Jones families, please let me know. Thanks, Marleen Van Horne

Deborah, I'm slightly familiar with Spotswood Jones; and was the Henry Jones you mentioned the husband of Delilah Jones, the family residing in Milton's District in the 1850 Census? Was Henry the son of Spotswood? I've never been able to tie either man to my line, which was Matthew and Sarah Jones, parents of Darling (born 11 Oct 1815 in NC)and probably Henry (the one who married Winifred McKNIGHT). Matthew died in Rutherford County on 5 Jan 1831. The widowed Sarah Jones married Cunningham SMITH on 9 Jun 1834. William or Sarah was closely related to William Jones, who resided on Falling Creek, the father of Albert, John C., ANDERSON, Robert S., Margaret Ann, William Edwin, Enoch J., and Samuel PASCHALL Jones. I'm not sure how many Jones lines there were in Rutherford County. I'm delighted to think there might be only two; but unfortunately I suspect there might be at least five or six. Mine were definitely associated not only with the Drennans and Millers in the area around Falling Creek, but also WARDs and THORNs, Robert HUNTER, and Albion SMITH, son of Cunningham. Nancy

There were two main lines of Jones in Rutherford. Some of us have confused one from the other but they are totally different families. There was a gentleman named Dickson who attended the first Presbyterian Church next to the Vine St. Cemetery. He and his wife were both there. This was very early 1800s. I have their names on the web site. I've been working on a diaper cake all day and am totally worn out! (If you've ever made one you understand...NEVER again!) Seems like Mr. Dickson's first name was James but that may not be. Let me rest up and I'll dig through the site. Whew!
