Remember that at that time (1812) what is now TN was part of North Carolina and I think that only N. Carolinians were granted bounty lands in what is now TN. Hi Mari, Would you please look up Cornelius Sanders wife Mary, Isaac Sanders wife Lucinda in Rutherford County and Nathaniel Rice wife Nancy in Wilson County. Thank You, Mary
I found this DAR Lookup announcement in my Rootsweb newsletter earlier this month. If you haven't checked DAR records, I highly recommend it. I saw a similar ad about 2 years ago. I checked for records on one of my ancestors and found someone had submitted an application to the DAR in 1994. My unknown very distant relative submitted an application to the DAR with documentation of her lineage back to our common ancestor. When I requested copies of her application and file records, it was full of documents including a copy of an 1828 bible page! My ancestor didn't even serve in the war. He was listed as a "patriot" for providing beef to the Army of the Southern Expedition. So, don't think an ancestor had to actually serve in the military. The lady who submitted the application is now deceased and her DAR chapter didn't have any of her records. To date, I've been unable to contact her family. The bible page was a wonderful find for me. NEED A DAR LOOKUP? Do you think you might have an ancestor who served in the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783)? Would you like to know whether your ancestor is listed with the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) in the "Patriot Index"? A helpful group of organized DAR VIS Volunteers monitor the RootsWeb DAR Message Board every day and welcome lookup requests. Include your Revolutionary War-era ancestor's first and last name, spouse's name (if known), dates of birth, death, and state of residence when posting your lookup request. You need not be interested in joining the NSDAR to request a lookup. http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar You may have to cut and paste the link into your web browser's link launch box. ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. Mari, Please look at SPAIN (anyone of that surname, but particularly STEPHEN SPAIN of Rutherford County) Thank you, Barbara Wyche
Tennessee became the 16th state on 1 June 1796. The NC Military Reservation for Rev. War service land grants was established earlier in middle Tennessee in 1783. Mari, Congratulations on the babies! Could you look for any McClanahan's in the book? Thank you so much, Sue
Mari, Would you please check for OWEN & SULLIVAN? Thanks. Mari: Could you please take a look and see if there are any McElroys listed? I know my Adam C. McElroy served in the War of 1812 (from Virginia) -- and possibly the Samuel McElroy who settled near Fosterville? Something I've been meaning to ask... is there a list compiled somewhere of the Tennessee land that was given as bounty to the men who served in the War of 1812? I suspect that may be why Adam & his family left Virginia for Tennesee in 1814, but have never found any records (yet!) LaVerne
