Deborah- Don't know of any Abstons that were in RU CO., but I would not be surprised. I do know there were mostly in Clinton Co., KY and Clay, Putnam, Overton, and Roane, TN but some were also in Davidson so it quite likely that a few went a little south of there also. My lines in Rutherford were Phillips and James. My GGGG GF Wm. Phillips died in Brunswick, Co., VA in 1804 and his widow, Nancy James Phillips came to Rutherford Co. in 1812 with the children, incl. my GGG GF Wm. J. Phillips who m. Mary Ross in 1838 in RU. Nancy came to Rutherford from VA. at the same times as some of her James siblings incl. Carey James, Jr., her brother. Let me know if you would like for me to send the Thurman info that I have. Deborah --Could your Thurmans have come from Pittsylvania Co.,VA to Kentucky and then to TN? My fathers maternal family, Abstons were there and John Abston married Frances Thurman in 1789 in that County. He later moved to Cumberland Co., KY and then to TN and died In TX. in his late 90's. He served in War of 1812 and filed for a pension because of it. I also have some info on a Laban Thurman and a Polly Thurman and a mention of a will of Richard Thurman in 18??, naming a daughter Frances Thurman. My Abstons wound up in Overton, Co., TN. Lipscomb Petit Abston, my GGG GF married the G GD of John Sevier, 1st Gov. of TN. and his 1st wife Sarah Hawkins. If you think these Pittsylvania Thurmans might be yours I will be happy to send the data that I have. Ok , I can't help but ask ; anything on William John Ball ? I know he started with the British but as family legend goes he switched sides . He was born about 1792 in Worchester England and died about 1873 in either Rutherford or Gibson County. He was married to Jane Jordan . You're correct <g> ( I know you're doing look ups to keep you mind off those babies, till you can go see them!) ;) They've both lost six ounces. I know that's normal but these lil fellows need everything they can get! Mari At 09:18 PM 11/29/2006, you wrote: > Mari, > Actually, there are several possabilities. I agree! I've never seen such wonderful nurses and doctors than i have at Baptist. They're so careful! They made me put on a mask because i have two dumb rare blood disorders (pernicious anemia and aplastic anemia) that leaves my immune system down quite often. They wanted to make sure i didn't have anything bad. I appreciated that.. They're just taking care of my lil babies. (I call them mine cause...well, cause i can!!!) Mari, Do you have any SCRUGGS , WALTONs or BOOKERs? Your gracious efforts very much appreciated. Edith
Mari, Actually, there are several possabilities. My Joshua Baker had several son's, including Henry Baker of Madison Co- my GGG, I've always wondered who he (Henry) was named for, as his daughter Susan Baker and her husband Joseph Luckey followed the Scotch-Irish naming pattern for all their children. Joseph Luckey born over in Smith Co's wife was Mary Polly Baker. Her father was John Baker. It maybe could be him. I feel that Joshua Baker and John Baker are probably related, but we have not figured out the relationship yet. Looks like I need to order these! Thanks so much! Teri P.S. Hey y'all, Please don't worry if I don't get these names out tonight. I'm on my way to Baptist Hospital to see my new lil baby grandkids. They're in great health although they've each lost a bit of weight. I'll have more pics tomorrow. (I know..I'm driving you all nuts <g>) Mari Mari
