The following is taken from "Goodspeeds History of NE Arkansas" "Boswell Blackburn PAYNE, Sr., retired farmer, is a native of Rutherford County, TN, born February 1, 1815, and is a son of James and Permelia Ann (HITCHCOCK) PAYNE, born in NC and Ireland, respectively, though they were reared, married and resided in TN, and died in that state about 1827 and 1828 respectively." This family is my brick wall. I cannot find any records of this family ever existing in TN anywhere. Boswell is my gg-grandfather. Once he came to AR (1843) I have found a ton on info on him and his family, but nothing in Rutherford County. If anyone has any leads or even a hint of info please let me know. Boswell Blackburn Payne married Nancy Nettles who was born in Franklin Co., TN in 1817. They were married in Dyer County, TN in 1836. Darlene Jackson Hofer ehofer@internetwork.net
Sorry, Deb, none of that made any sense to me....I still don't know what is so exciting about Miracode.... According to "Unpuzzling Your Past - A Basic Guide to Genealogy" by Emily Anne Croom, Miracode "gives family visitation number instead of page number but uses the same coding system as Soundex." I don't know about the other questions. :) Hope this helps. -Deb _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
I have not yet found the map discussed previously: 1875 Rutherford Co, Tn property owners. However, I did find the correct name for it. It was the 1875 PLAT MAP OF PROPERTY OWNERS by Beers Publishing Company. These maps were done for all (?most) of the counties in the U. S. I did find that RootsWeb has several of these on line but mainly for counties in Ilinois and Ohio (see below). I'll keep looking. Joyce http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilhenry/75alb_ne.htm 1875 Plat Map of Property Owners Alba Township Henry County Illinois These maps were originally published in "Atlas of Henry Co. and the State of Illinois to Which is Added an Atlas of the United States Maps of the Hemispheres &c. &c. &c., WARNER AND BEERS PUBLISHERS, Lakeside Building Cor. of Clark & Adams Sts., Chicago, 1875"
Could someone tell me just what miracode means when referring to a census?? And why all states do not have this whatever it is???and can the actual census records be bought on CD-rom's??? It was used in Okla, Ark and a few other states. The majority of the states had a soundex. I don't know why it was used for only a few states. The purpose of a miracode is exactly the same as a soundex, listing family etc. Here's what you'll find at the TOP of a miracode card. The county name is in the top left corner. The 9 digits in the upper right corner look something like this xxx xx xxxx. You can interpret these numbers as follows: the 3 digits on far left mean nothing. The middle 2 digits are the ED number (enumeration dist), the 3 or 4 numbers on the right are a column number which can be found on a census page immediately left of the name of the head of house. So you see, the miracode does not provide a sheet number (page number), however with the county name + the ED number and the column number....you can still find your family. I'm not into census records on CDs since I live near a branch of the Natl Archives, so can't answer your question on that. Does any in Murfreesboro know if the Historical Society still carries it? Mary Ann, My maternal great-grandmother was a Primm. I don't know if she is related to your Primm's because I have no information on her parents. Her name (as I have it) is Nannie Primm. I have no birthdate, but she died in 1915-1916; she married Walter S. Blanton (1861-1939). They had 3 children - 2 girls and a boy. The Tipton Co. cemetery site at TNGenWeb states that several Tipton Co. cemeteries have partial or complete listings in the Tipton Co. Public Library. Have you been able to check their listings? -Deb ----- Original Message ----- From: Mary Ann Askeenbburg <marrryddon@hiwaay.net> To: <TNRUTHER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2001 10:54 PM Subject: [TNRUTHER] Primm ancestors Surname: Primm Family ------------------------- I am seaarching for the descendents of Jarvis Shirley and Rebecca Rowlett. Jean, do you have a Rexanne CARTER, whose maiden name might have been DAVIS. I have her in my files and I have a letter that she wrote to my great, great grandfather Aquilla DAVIS in 1873 and she addresses him as "Dear Uncle" I am familiar with the SANFORD name in the Lavergne Area, too. Searching the ALEXANDER, ALFORD (sometimes ALFRED), BARRETT, and WARD families in Valley district of Rutherford County, later listed as Walter Hill area. Groups of these families moved to the McLennan County, TX area (Crawford, TX , Valley Mills, TX, Osage, TX all outside Waco) in the 1890s time frame, although I am sure some family remained in the Rutherford area. By the way...roll call was a great idea! Melissa in Colorado
