    2. Beth Bowling
    3. Hi Everyone...I am researching the BOWLING name ( and all other spellings of this name) in the Murfreesboro and Halls Hill areas. I'm not that familiar with the names of places in Rutherford County in the long ago...but this family seems to have been in a wide area. If you have any Bowling relatives please let me know. Happy Hunting, Beth B

    1. Re: [TNRUTHER] Roll Call LOWE, HARBIN, GOWEN, SUTTON
    2. Bill, Do you have any information on Walter S. Lowe? He was married to my great grandfather's sister, Nancy Malvina Amanda Norman B) 21 October 1821 and D) 1 November 1852. They married 28 October 1840 and had two children, James H. B) 3 September 1841 and D) September 1861 and Elizabeth B) 9 November 1843 and D) January 1858. Amanda married James C. McGill 25 November 1847. What happened to Walter S. Lowe, did he die or get killed? Amanda and the two children are buried in a small cemetery across the road from her father's house on Elam Road south of Murfreesboro. Also do you have any information on the Gowen family? My great grandmother was Catherine Elizabeth Gown. She married Granville Ledbetter Norman 23 November 1854 and they moved to Texas between September 1859 and June 1860. She is the daughter of Catherine Gowen, she and her mother was living with and around the Norman's in 1850. Catherine E. Gowen was B) 24 November 1832 and D) 18 March 1882 at Ferris Texas. I have not found any information on who her father is, but believe her mother was born in South Carolina dates unknown. I hope this will help you and hope you may have info on Walter and/or Gowen's. 2. Darlene Hofer, Have you gone through the 1840 TN census line by line looking for Boswell Payne? In my own case, I found my g grandfather that way because he was living on his father-in-law's farm and enumerated there. Jim

    2. Deborah: Thompson Lane and Nolensville Rd. - Woodbine area. My Great Grandfather lived in Woodbine for years. My family worked at Baird Ward Printing Co. I was born at St. Thomas Hosp., raised in East Nashville. When I left Nashville, my parents lived in Donelson. Like you I still consider Nashville home. I know this is not proper text for this list, but it is so good to hear about "home" when you are so far away. I now live in Hawaii, which is about as far away as you can get and still be in the United States. Joyce Mallare hilowahini1942@aol.com

    2. Mary Halford
    3. Thanks Teresa, That's how it's spelled in my Bible, too but my family, census takers &, county clerks see to have a hard time with spelling. Not just first names either. Halford is frequent turn into Alford and vice versa. So for those looking for Alfords to you have Bradley , John, Jonathon and Alfred Marion, Jesse , Lafefeyette ( brothers and sones of Bradley) Mary Kesiah,I always like the name -- I'm glad somebody had it now. 3. << Where did you grow up? I am from Antioch. Live in AL now.>> My entire family was born and raised in Nashville, right off Thompson Lane & Nolensville Road. A couple of family names you may recognize is Archie and Holzapfel. My uncle, Everett Holzapfel, had 15 kids, and my aunt, Marijo Hunt Archie, had 6 children. I have lots of cousins I have never even met on the Holzapfel side. My father moved us to Columbia, SC when I was a young girl, so I've been here most of my life. I still consider Nashville my home and drive up there about every two or three months. I usually stay with my grandmother, Xavier Holzapfel Hunt. She's lived alone for years so I visit with her often. About Antioch......My great grandfather, Asa S. Hunt, was the postmaster for Antioch for many years, he died in 1965. My father used to explore some caves in Antioch when he was child. Do you know where they are or if they still exist today? I remember him saying that the construction of Antioch Pike might have destroyed them. I have relatives on my mothers side in Anniston & Sylacauga, AL. Where are you from? Have a great Sunday! 3. I'm searching for Read/Reed and Fagan with possibly ties to the Nesbitts and Fletchers. Lemuel Read/Reed, who was married to Sarah Jones Fagan, had a blacksmith shop a few miles out of Murfreesboro and land on Panther Creek, and later on the East Fork of Stones River. May have lived last in Milton. He bought and sold land many times. Time frame is ca 1816-1847. His children moved to Texas. Judy Richie
