Hi, I live in Smyrna and there is only one large cemetery here. The name is Mapleview and nearly anyone in town can give directions to it. Liz
Joyce, I don't know the names of any large cemeteries in Smyrna, but there is a large cemetery on Murfreesboro Road (a.k.a. NW Broad St.; a.k.a. New Nashville Highway; a.k.a. US Highway 70S/41). It's called Roselawn Memorial Gardens and is only about 5 or 10 minutes from the Smyrna city limits. Here's their address and phone number in case you decide to give it a shot: Roselawn Memorial Gardens 5350 NW Broad Street 615-893-5641 The library in Murfreesboro (Linebaugh Public Library, http://www.linebaugh.com/) has several Rutherford County cemetery books; you might try looking there first before checking cemeteries at random. Maybe someone on the list has one or more of those books and would look up your gg grandparents for you. Hope this has been of some help to you. Best wishes and good luck! -Deb
Prominent family from S. Carolina. Charles McDonald HEARD m. Sarah MOORE (I believe in Georgia). Many children b. in Rutherford Co. (Stone River). I would be interested in hearing from a lister who may be researching this lineage. In 1816 these families moved to Hamilton Co., Illinois. I am following them in Illinois but would like earlier information. Thanks, Donna in Indiana
Dear Friends, I come to you on bended knee again. The records of where my gg grandparents are buried were destroyed by fire. I talked to my great aunt today and all she can remember is that they're buried in Smyrna in a large cemetery. So... if anyone could post the names of cemeteries in Smyrna (and street/location if you know) I would truly appreciate it. I have no idea how many there are but I felt the need to take a shot at finding their graves. Thanks again, Joyce Martin >From the Beautiful Texas Hill County ********************************************* Tennessee, Texas and German Ancestry Please come by and visit! www.ancestraljournal.com

Nina, Lt. James Blythe Morton was a Lt. in the Rev. War, serving with the Charlotte Co., VA militia and was an ensign in the 4th VA regiment. The Colonel Hardy Murfree Chapter, Daughters of the American Rev. honored his memory at a June 18, 1959 ceremony at which time a bronze plaque was placed on a commemorative stone at Rocky Fork on the old Smyrna Road about half way situated about half way between Nolensville and Smyrna, TN. He is buried in the family cemetery situated on top of a hill to the rear of the monument. Unfortunately someone stole the bronze plaque. I am not sure when he came to TN, but he died at the home place in 1808. Further, I believe that James above is the son of either John or James MORTON, son of Samuel Morton and Ann Holton Wallace Morton. After the 1830 census, James Morton disappears from Anderson County, so it's possible he moved on to one of the bordering counties or even further. Good luck in your searching. Nina, I am sorry to tell you this, but your first message came with a virus that McAlfee detected. You might want to check it out. It said something like this. "The file....Sorry ab.pif is a known trojan file." I was able to delete it. Hope it doesn't do anything to your computer. Early Mortons I have are John Morton who migrated from England, Married Joanne Hughes in Henrico Co., VA>John Jr. m. Elizabeth Morton, cousin>Stephen Morton , b. 1710, Charlotte Co., VA, d. 1793. No record of wife. If your James Morton and son stayed in the Rutherford County area, then it's probably not my family, although one son of my ggg-grandfather (who is unknown and the source of my research) went to Rutherford County. My gg-grandfather, David MORTON, was born circa 1800 in NC and died in 1838. He had brothers Thomas and George that we know of, and a sister Mary Ann. All stayed in the Anderson/Union/Campbell county area with the exception of Thomas. Thomas was listed in the 1840 Anderson County census and then the family seems to disappear. I've been trying to find other NC Mortons who moved to TN and trying to tie them in to our line, but with absolutely no luck. There was a James MORTON listed in the 1830 Anderson County, TN census who is living near my gg-grandfather, David's, farm. George and Mary Ann had to be living either with him or with a Tilda MORTON who is also listed as living on an adjoining farm. I believe that Tilda must have died between the 1830 and 1840 census because my grat Uncle Wager said in his family write-up that Mary Ann lived on an adjoining farm. Either Mary Ann inherited the James Morton property or the Tilda Morton property. At any rate, thank you so very much for helping me with this. Blessings from Pittsburgh and have a great week. Hello. I am looking for anyone on this list who may be related to any BATEYS from the early mid 1800's from Rutherford County TN. My Batey was a Nathaniel Batey but he also had siblings that were from the area...and Nathaniel and his wife Nancy Smith had many children as well... Please reply. Sincerely, TBeaty
Carolyn, I am not sure where James Blythe Morton served, but I do know that he was in prison in Charleston for maybe three years. I have never run into the land purchase and Samuel Morton doesn't ring a bell. I have neglected the Morton family for a while and I need to get back to work on it. Mary Pat, What are the names of the 2 wives of your James Mortons? Thanks, M'Lissa

Can someone tell me if the Rutherford Co. cemetery book published by the Stones River S. A. R. Chapter and the Rutherford Co. Historical Society in 1975 is still available for sale? I have several families who I believe lived in the northern part of the county. Also I would like to know if someone died at Walter Hill in Rutherford County, in what cemetery would they most likely be buried. I have a gr gr grandfather Elisha James Crutchfield, a Civil War veteran, who died at Walter Hill between 1905-1910 and I would like to find his grave. Thanks for any help. Mary Louise
