    1. Re: [TNRUTHER] J. Morton, Jr.
    2. Thanks so very much. I was trying to find out if James Blythe Morton was born in TN or perhaps NC or VA. There is a James Morton in the 1830 Anderson County, TN census who is between 40-50 years of age. He lives close by my gg-grandfather, David Morton. I've been trying to find out what happened to this James Morton and family since I can't find them after the 1830 census, which doesn't happen to list names of the children, either. My great uncle, Wager Morton, from Knoxville, said in his book that one of them went to Rutherford County, so I'm trying to locate any James or Thomas Morton that might be in Rutherford County circa 1830-1840. Blessings from Pittsburgh, Nina Morton T.

Cummins was the son of Uriah S. Cummins and Margaret Smith. Margaret was the daughter of Bennett Smith. Was William H. Smith Margaret's brother and Bennett's son? Does anyone know why James M. Cummins stayed in TN when his father & other members of the family went to Texas? These records note that there was a "negro man" named Rush who was in the employ of J. MORTON, JR. Can anyone provide additional information on J. Morton, Jr.? What was his given name? I know that a man named Samuel Morton purchased land from Sarah Cummins and John Edwards...Sarah being a sister of Uriah S. I just found a marriage record for Nathan Petty and Rebecca Coosa for 1838, and wanted to know if there are other Coosa's in the county around that time which may help me locate her parents or siblings. In the 1850 Rutherford and 1860 Cannon co. censuses, she listed that she was born in NC (b.bet. 1821-1823)23*. Any help would be immensely appreciated!! R. Estes

    1. [TNRUTHER] RC Record books
    2. I got my monthly newsletter from FROW CHIPS (the RC Hist. Society) about a meeting that took place July 16, speaker was John Lodl. It said, "some old Rutherford County record books have been found. My Lodl will tell of some interesting and fascinating facts found in these books" My question is....are these ADDITIONAL books (never found before)? I know there is an ongoing project to index these RECORD BOOKS on the Rutherford Co, Tn web site. Were these 'recently found books' included in the project, or ? What were some of the interesting facts found in these? Thanks, Joyce T.
