You might try to obtain a copy of the book "Some Pucketts and their Kin" through interlibrary loan or possibly on microfilm on the LDS Family Centers. It includes some of our Pucketts from Rutherford Co. (and later Henry Co.) They were Arthur Puckett's family - some of his sons were Leonard and Pleasant. A daughter was Elizabeth "Betsy". I don't recognize James Rufus but he could be related. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Copies of original census returns on microfilm, for Rutherford County and other locations, are available for $12.95 a roll (plus $4.00 shipping, waived for orderes of ten or more rolls) from Census Microfilm Expeditors (http://www.censusmicrofilm.com). I've been quite happy with the set of 1850-1900 Rutherford County census rolls that I ordered from them, particularly since the image quality of these microfilms is usually better than the image quality of the much-used copies available in most libraries. -Richard Carlson At 09:33 PM 8/23/01 EDT, you wrote: >Does anyone know how I can purchase a 1850 Rutherford Co. Got this from Mari this morning. Anyone wanting to help can email her at keyofbflat@home.com <<Hi Teresa, I wanted you to know about a couple of things we're doing for the Rutherford web site. I really should join TNRUTHER-L so I could just send it to the list and you wouldn't have to bother with it. I've been so dog gone busy. You may already know about all this...I just wanted to make sure. We've been doing the Rutherford County Record Book indexing. Marty is in charge and has done such a great job! We only have seven letters left to type up. If anyone on your list wants to help please have them give me a yell. Also, and this hasn't been posted yet, one of our Rutherford folks out in Texas, Joyce, has taken the old Beers 1878 county map and has scanned each district! We're typing up lists of the ppl who lived in each district along with the businesses. Joyce has worked so hard on this..it amazes me! Steve Gilley, the Sullivan Co CC and a great friend of mine is taking the district maps, etc. into an image map maker and is making each district clickable, so that when you click on a district you see the enlarged district and the list of ppl and businesses there :) We also have a few districts that haven't been typed if someone on your list wants to volunteer to help with that. I'm just really excited! Joyce has even indexed the towns!! All this will be clickable when I get it posted to the Rutherford web site. Just wanted to make sure you knew about this stuff and to see if anyone on TNRUTHER-L wanted to help. Mari >> Teresa Ghee Elliott TNRUTHER-L@rootsweb.com List Owner

This might be more than you wanted to know, but (ahem)...... Robert Overall's ancestry can be traced back to Virginia, and to England. A ggg uncle of his was John Overall (b.1559 d.1819. Norwich England) In 1604, Bishop John Overall was appointed by King James I as one of the translators of the King James Version of the Bible. Robert's parents were Nathaniel Overall (1758-1835) and Anne Thomas (d.1844) Nathaniel was a signer of the Cumberland Compact of Government at Nashborough May 1, 1780. He and his future wife Anne Thomas participated in the "Battle of the Bluffs" , defending the future Nashville, Tn. against Indian attack on April 2, 1781. They were married at Nashboro in 1783 , had several children, including Robert (b. 1785). Before 1800, they had settled at "Hall's Hill" in an area later part of Rutherford Co. On 12/22/1804 they bought 100 acres in this area. (Ruth. Deed Book A, #45). Other land deals were with John Donelson (Book G pg 104) and Andrew Jackson (Book G pg 277), both selling Nathaniel property. sources: D.A.R. records #385538 History of Rutherford Co. by Simms Overall Family Hist.Notes by Virginia Ramsey McGee, Jackson ,Tn. 1908 -- Jess Lewis >> http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/ << >> http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/cannon.htm <<
Robert Overall is supposed to be buried in a small overgrown cemetery, near the old Overall Homeplace, near Milton, TN. (Rutherford Co.). See a pic of the house at....... http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/Overall.gif This cemetery is commonly called the Patterson Cemetery, as the Overall homeplace was bought by the Patterson Family in later years, and some of their family is buried there. The cedar log house was still standing a couple of years ago, and I assume is still standing. It was being used for hay storage, when we visited the place. He was quite a character, according to some accounts. Somewhat of a "hothead", who was very different from most of his brothers who were Methodist Ministers or leaders in the Methodist Church. He was a War of 1812 Vet. and a friend of Andy Jackson, who, being a lawyer, offered to defend Robert in court (no charge) Robert (b.6/11/1785 d.10/08/1862) has no T'Stone, that we could find, but his wife (and cousin) Mary Espy Overall (b.1782 d.12/24/1838) does have a tombstone in the cemetery. After Mary's death, Robert continued to live at the homeplace, until his death in 1862. A widowed daughter and her children, lived there with him. Family tradition has him buried there, and as I recall, there is a fieldstone marker, alongside her grave. Probably his marker. -- Jess Lewis >> http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/ << >> http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/cannon.htm <<

RootsWeb accepts only plain text mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'', and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists. You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail reader, or don't use any attachments. See http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, so we find it's best just to use plain text. -- The RootsWeb staff --part1_9a.18b6a035.28ad3095_boundary--
