Thanks for your quick response. This works fine. Thanks again. JJ
Joe, Below is a book that includes biographical sketches of doctors in Rutherford county, Tennessee. I do not have a copy of the book so cannot help with a look up. I used the book at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City several years ago. Hope this helps. Rebecca Christensen Robert G. Thanks so much for this information, however, I am unable to access the website with the address link you provided. JJ
Oaklands Mansion has a medical museum. I believe Dr. E.C. Tolbert donated the start up collection. Those would be 2 contacts for Rutherford Co. medical history (besides the archives). Also Dr. Ransom comes to mind when I think of this subject. This is just a train-of-thought message. I hope it give you some leads! Well, it was my fault. I had just written a note asking for ideas on a large, rural Rutherford County cemetery. I'm helping an MTSU student with a project (He's doing all the work.) and needed to find a rural cemetery that had at least 25 legible grave stones. You happened to write your offer of help on the Mullins Cemetery and I thought you were answering me :) I just got home from Phoenix and hadn't had time to read all the email that is sitting in my In Box. As soon as I did I understood that you meant a different email, written by someone else. This is a typical error for me...I tend to get ahead of myself. <G> ....sometimes several times a day! The one on old Nashville Hwy. I am not sure of the history because my family has not been passing on much family information. I have a lot of relatives other than Mullins buried there. ROFL! I think I just answered the wrong letter! I apologize, Jennifer :) I was out of state last week and hadn't had time to read old email. Sorry about that. Mari, still jet lagged!!! Hi Jennifer, That is so very kind of you to offer your help. I know there are two Mullins Cemeteries. Are you talking about the one off Old Nashville Highway? That might work really well. Let me scan the list I have of the cemetery and send it to the person I'm helping. Again, you are so sweet to offer. Do you by any chance know the history of the cemetery? I guess that's a silly question since you're a descendant. This project he's doing sounds so interesting to me! It's something I'd love to do myself. Hi everyone, I have a question I need an answer to really fast. I'm helping an MTSU student with a project and he needs to do the leg work this weekend. Does anyone know what would be considered the largest, or a large rural cemetery in Rutherford? I have given him the urban cemeteries but am not sure what to tell him regarding rural. He has to be able to photograph and copy from at least 25 grave stones. I suggested Canon Cemetery up in Smyrna but it's so difficult to reach. Anyone have an idea? I appreciate it very much as I'm sure he will :) Mari
I thought it might be of interest to those of you researching in TN that you can now purchase microfilm rolls for your own use from TSLA. Inventories listing Tennessee county records on microfilm are available on the TSLA website. Roll-by-roll listings for individual counties are being added to the Tennessee State Library and Archives website on an on-going basis. County inventories not yet available on the website are Anderson, Blount, Bradley, Davidson, Dyer, Giles, Hamilton, Johnson, Knox, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, Meigs, Montgomery, Obion, Rutherford, Sequatchie, Sevier, Shelby , Sullivan, Washington and Wilson. While it won't help those of us researching in Rutherford County, most of the surrounding counties are finished. Plus, if you are planning on traveling to TSLA to do research, you can have your roll numbers all ready planned out, so you can go straight to the roll you need, and you can see what records aren't available, so you don't waste a trip, if the records you need don't exist. The cost is $15.00 for 16mm rolls, $20.00 for 35mm rolls The cost of postage and handling is included in the cost of the rolls. For more information see http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/r& r/mfcounty.htm#inventory Enjoy, Teresa Ghee Elliott TNRUTHER-L@rootsweb.com listowner

I descend from Josiah and Rachael Brandon through their son, William Brandon, who married Mary Sample of Williamson/Davidson Co., TN. Two of William's daughters married William H. (Mariah Louise) and LeRoy Hipkins (Mary Ann) Jones, sons of Major William Jones and wife, Mary Saunders. William Brandon and brother, Thomas were early builders in Huntsville, AL and later joined by brothers, Byrd and Logan and several sisters. I have worked on the Brandon line for nearly 50 years now. Huntsville is about 50 miles from Josiah's home in Lincoln, now Moore Co., TN. I have a great deal of Brandon information that I will be happy to share but need a street address since I am a novie at sending material through e-mail. Some initial thoughts on your request: (1) There is no evidence that Isaac Winston was the son of an Anthony Winston. An Anthony Winston of Buckingham Co., VA was later found in Davidson Co., TN, then Huntsville and on to Lauderdale Co., AL (Florence). This Anthony married Kesiah Jones, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Walker Jones and the sister of my ancestor, William Jones, killed at Guilford County Court House, NC. This Anthony's son, Isaac, is well documented in Lauderdale Co., AL. (2) Joseph W. Winston (1831-1879) marrried Caledonia Mills lawler Jones, the widow of William Thomas LeRoy Jones (1832-1853), son of William H. and Mariah Louise Brandon Jones. Thus her marriage to Joseph Winston was a 2nd marriage. She was pregnant when her husband died shortly after their marriage. (3) Thomas Brandon Winston (1828-1891) married Arabella Evalina Coyle, the daughter of Evalina Belmont Jones and her second marriage to ben Coyle. Evalina's first marriage was to her cousin, Arthur W. Jones, the son of John Jones who was a brother to kesiah Jones Winston and William Jones mantioned above, Evalina Belmont Jones married Ben Coyle on May 18, 1837. There are a number of children of both marriages. She was a sister of William H. and LeRoy Hipkins Jones. (4)An obituary for Nancy Brandon Winston indicates she has 11 children, 5 of whom died before her death on Sept. 26, 1880. We have never located the Josiah Brandon line other then his father was Thomas Brandon. There is a new development that perhaps ties this Thomas to a Virginia family from the Norfolk area. A researcher in North Carolina has put together an amazing amount of information on Josiah and family but it is far from complete. I can be reached at jrisonj2@AOL.com, or 245 Inverness drive, SW, Huntsville, AL 35802=4565. I can be reached at 256/881-7726. Hope this helps. Looking for ancestors/siblings/descendants of my gggrandmother, Susan V. Young b. 7 May 1832 Tn. and m. Anderson Bird Randolph in Franklin Co., Il. 10 Aug 1854. His family migrated from I believe Bledsoe Co., Tn. in the late 1840's to Saline Co.,Il. Any help appreciated. I do not know parents or siblings; I think perhaps she might have had a brother named Benjamin S., but am not sure. She's my brick wall. Are there any Young descendants out there?
