Hi Betty, I just loaded Goodspeeds from the Rutherford County page in both IE and Netscape with no problems. I'm sorry, not sure what is causing your problem. HI, I think Betty was asking about Wilson Line... I found out that the site where the Church sits now is actually its third location. This Church was built in 1925 after the second Church burned. My grandmother told me that my Great Great Great Grandfather, Jesse Warrick, was a preacher there. That would of been a long long time ago. I don't know what time frame. But my Grandmother was born in in 1918 and this was her Great Grandfather, so I think that would put it in the late 1800's... My Great Uncle, Issac Warrick was a preacher there when I was little in the 70's I hope this helps some. Hi Is anyone researching either the Daniel Haskin family or Samuel Donelson family? They both owned land along Bradley Creek. Would like to correspond. Deborah
Hi Does anyone know where Bradley or Bradley's Creek is in Rutherford Co TN? I have looked on several maps - but they appear not to be detailed enough. I am going there in two weeks and would like to see the area. My ancestor, Lewis Davis lived and owned land on Bradley's Creek. He bought it from John Donelson of Davidson Co TN - not sure if this was Rachel Donelson Jackson's father or not. Any help on the location of Bradley's Creek sure would be appreciated. Thanks Deborah

This came from RCHS publication no. 12, Winter 1979: Captain Nathaniel Gooch enlisted in April 1861 in Co. C, 18th Tenn Infantry serving as 2nd Lieut. He was captured at Fort Donelson in February 1862 and exchanged in November 1862 in Vicksburg, Miss. after which he became Captain on the staff of General James B. Palmer (note per Estelle- could they mean Gen. Joseph B. Palmer?) After the war Nathaniel became a medical doctor practicing in Rutherford Co., later in 1886 moving to Nashville and continuing his practice there. Nathaniel has many descendants, widely scattered, but two of his grandchildren still live in the area - Lt. Co. Christopher McEwen Gooch, Jr. of Clarksville, and Mrs. Jane Gooch Ambrose (Mrs. Henry Ambrose) of Brentwood Son of Dr. John and Eliza Ann Saunders Gooch. Goochland was the plantation. The property was taken over for Sewart AFB and the house was razed in 1942. There were three other sons enlisted in the Confederate Army but not this unit.
I seem to remember someone asking about the surname "Wade". Marriages of Rutherford Co: Randolph V. Johns to Lucinda Wade, Jan. 8, 1832. I have another notation: Randolf V. Johns, wife Elizabeth, daughter of John Wade., Sr. who died in Rutherford Co. before 1840. This is from the Rutherford Co. Historical Soc. Publication No. 8, Winter 1977: John Wade, Sr. son of John Edgar and Abagail Brawner Wade, was born in 1760 in Fredrick Co., Maryland. He had 2 sisters, Elizabeth and Ann, 3 brothers, James, William and Jessee. John Wade, as did his father, fought in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted as a private under Captain John Reynolds in Fredrick Co., Maryland July 18, 1776, re-enlisted May 5, 1778. He served during the War in Captain Bernard Hubley's Co., under Lt. Col. Ludwig Weliner, German Batallion, Continental Troops. His name appears in Register 1783, and on a similar list November 2, 1784. He was married in 1781 in Montgomery Co., Maryland to Elizabeth Offutt, who was born in Maryland. They had 13 children: 1. Mordecai Burgess, b. 4-28-1800, d. 10-30-1886, m. Martha A. Campbell, b. 7-5-1818, d. 9-10-1863 2. Eliza, b. 1803, d. 1840, m. William Snell who died 11-1-1836 3. Elizabeth, b. 1-8-1804, d. 10-21-1886, m. 7-15-1825 to Ed Alexander Cochran 4. Jane, b. 11-4-1824, married Isaac Brown 10. Henry C. (bachelor) d. Sept. 6, 1882, no birth date given 11. Lucinda, b. 1-8-32, married Randolph Johns (note per Estelle Hall-in Rutherford Co., TN Marriages 1804-1872 by Edythe Whitley a marriage between a Lucinda Wade and Randolph V. Johns took place on Jan. 8, 1832) 12. Sally, married 1. John Sperry, 2. John Wade (1st cousin) 13. Catherine (Kitty), married Osias Wade (1st cousin) Six of these were confirmed in the will of John Wade, Sr. Sometime prior to 1820 John and two of his brothers, William and James, with their families, immigrated to Tennessee. John and William settled in the northwest section of Rutherford Co. in what is now Bethel-Leana Community. John Wade, Sr. was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Sulphur Springs. He was a highly respected citizen and a man of integrity. He had an eminent ancestry. Four generations back, Zachory Wade, born in 1627, died 1677, and his wife, Mary Hatton, who died in 1678, came as immigrants to Maryland from Warwichshire, England. He was an extensive land owner and a donor of land upon which Washington, D. C. is located. There is a monument in Washington, D. C., on 15th Street, between Constitution Ave. and East Street, erected by the National Daughters of American Colonist, April 25, 1936. It bears the following inscription, "To the original potentees prior to 1700 whose land grants embrace the site of the Federal City. The name of Zachery Wade is among those listed, followed by the date 1670. John Wade, Sr., died in 1840, his wife, Elizabeth, died in 1835 in Rutherford Co. A number of his descendants still live in Rutherford Co., some in the community where their ancestors settled so many years ago.
Yes, I have pics of the Church.....A friend sent them to me when he was looking for the old Arnold farm a couple of years ago...and that piqued my interst in finding the history of the church..Richard, sr. was born in Murphreesboro in 1820...His mother was an unnamed barmaid, according to the family legend....He died in 1893 and is buried in Suggs Creek cemetery, in the Hamilton plot(his second wife)...Richard, Jr(the Evangelist) was born in 1849...He married Mary Elizabeth Bradshaw, in Wilson county...They traveled the middle Tennessee area in a covered wagon, with the children, while Richard preached...My grandfather, Bernice Bender Woodroof, was born in that wagon, in January, 1884....His sister, my Aunt Ola, remembered rubbing his feet to keep him from freezing to death.... Anyway, I just thought that I might find something interesting in the Church history or that cemetery.... _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Well, I appreciate any help I can get..This Church sits on what I figure is the southern border of my Richard Woodroof's land..Since his son, Richard, jr., was an itinerant Evangelist for the Church of Christ, I have just wondered if they might have had the Church built there....and if there are any records mentioning their names... Betty, I'm glad you sent it to the list. I had forgotten who it was I had tried to help with this church and now maybe I can. Betty, Have you taken pictures out there? (I'm sorry, you may have already said.) It sure makes you wonder, doesn't it? It makes sense that he would have put a church on his land if that's what he did. Do you have dates for Richard and Richard, Jr? This is very interesting. I don't mind asking questions and climbing fences. Actually, it would be neat to get all this together and put it on the Rutherford County web site. I want to thank you for getting back to me , the two being age 20-30 could be correct . In 1840 they had been married about 3 years and had a son Sterling V. Clark b. 22 Jan 1839 so he could be the male under 5 . Also according to when the census were taken , if it was after Aug. when my line , Mary Marinda Clark b. 11 Aug . 1840 she could be the female under 5 . It is the first information I have had when they were still living in Tn.. They had 10 children listed in Franklin Co. Illinois census at least first 4 born Tn . Thanks if you find anything more sure hope you keep me in mind . Isn't Wilson Line Baptist Church of Christ right off Jefferson Pike? Betty, I believe it was you I tried to help find this church a couple of years ago. I'm glad you mentioned it. There is a sign for a church with the same name on Jefferson Pike...it tells you to turn left. If I can find time Sunday I'll drive down there and see what's up. Maybe someone there can tell me. Hi Betty, Sounds like that isn't far from where we live. We're inside the Smyrna city limits but actually very close to the Wilson County line. Old Jefferson is within 5 minutes of me. I know where Mona Rd. is.
