    1. Re: [TNRUTHER] Thomas Wood 1750-1830, Rutherford Co., TN
    2. Carolyn Smotherman
    3. Ginger, I am very interested in your message about the Wood family. John T. Gregory, son of Thomas Gregory and Mahala Wood, said in a Civil War veterans questionnaire that Mahala's mother was a Smotherman and her father was John Wood. I am pretty sure this John Wood had two wives. Some where I got the idea that her name was Elizabeth. I don't know that to be true. I don't know who could be her parents. John Smotherman (b. about 1769 VA, d. 1833 Rutherford Co, TN) is one of five brothers. The children of three of the brothers are proved. John is the one most likely to be the father of this (Elizabeth?) Wood. Have you ever encountered this woman in your research? 3. Hi Ginger, I see a Smotherman....We have several researchers on this list who are looking for Smotherman lines...Actually, they may have found them. I don't think Marty is on this list but I'll email her. She can tell you every Smotherman who ever lived in Rutherford and Bedford Counties. <G> Mari Byers Nashville At 01:01 PM 12/3/2004, you wrote: >Hello, >I am Ginger Rogers and I've been researching the Wood families in Rutherford >Co., TN and surrounding counties in Middle Tennesee. > >Thomas Wood was born ca. 1750 in VA. 1. Thomas Wood 1750-1830, Rutherford Co., TN
    2. Hello, I am Ginger Rogers and I've been researching the Wood families in Rutherford Co., TN and surrounding counties in Middle Tennesee. Thomas Wood was born ca. 1750 in VA. He may have married a woman named Judy (maiden name unknown) - as the 1830 census of Rutherford Co., TN lists a Judy Wood living near some of the children of Thomas Wood. He had 5 children all born in VA: 1. Edmund Wood b. ca. 1776 - (possibly married to Elizabeth Johns?) 2. John Wood - b.ca. 1777- possibly married a "Michael" (aka Meeker, Mitchel) 3. Thomas Wood, Jr. - b.ca. 1780/3, died before 1830 - possibly married to Sallie Arnold in Prince Edward Co., VA. 4. Robert Wood -b.ca.1781 VA, married Elizabeth Hurt in Prince Edward Co., VA. 5. Elizabeth Wood - b. ca.1785 married John Lewis Harris Arnold. Thomas Wood. Sr. moved to Rutherford Co., TN in mid-late 1810s - where he died 1828/1830. His children moved to Rutherford Co., TN also - except Thomas Wood, Jr. is believed to have died in VA before 1830. Many of their descendants were found in the middle TN counties of Rutherford Co., Cannon Co.. Madison Co. and Gibson Co. Some branches moved to northeast Arkansas, settling in Independence Co., AR and Green Co., AR. Other surnames associated with this family include: Arnold, Beasley, Grimes, Hall, Hoskins, Hurt, Ivey, Johns, Keith, Nash, Overall, Smotherman, Sudberry, and Winsett. Please contact me if you have any connection to this Wood family or others in Prince Edward Co., VA; Buckingham Co., VA; Rutherford Co.,TN; Cannon Co., TN, Gibson Co., TN or Madison Co., TN. I've extracted information on Wood-Woods families from Census records, Chancery Court records, County Court records, Probate records, Marriage records, Wills and Adminstratives records and I'm currently working on land deed records. Thank you, A Friend in Genealogy Ginger Rogers A Wood Descendant in New Caney, TX

    2. Barbara Scott Wyche
    3. Spain's Hill is named after my family. Since I have not been able to find the graves of two of my ancestors, I have wondered if there was a family burial plot on this property. I am looking for the graves of Stephen Spain (d. 1840) and his wife Lucy Verell Spain (d. 1860). I am in hopes that, with the new homes and development in the area, perhaps someone will stumble over a family graveyard. Stephen Spain purchased 640 acres with the following description: WILLIAM WARD TO STEPHEN SPAIN: 10 Dec 1818, partly in Wilson Co, partly in Rutherford Co, 640 acres on the dry fork of Falling Creek, bounded by JOHN DONELSON'S property. Oaths by WILLIAM SEARCY and ALGERNON PIEARCY. (At the time, the property was described at being partly in Wilson County and partly in Rutherford County with WARD "of Rutherford County" and SPAIN "of Wilson County.") 1. Re: [TNRUTHER] Jesse Reed family
    2. Carolyn Smotherman
    3. Terry, I feel sure your Reeds are kin to my husband's branch. His gg-grandmother was Margarite Reed Smotherman. Her father was John A. Reed (1816 to after 1880). He had two grandsons named John Allen Reed and John Allen Smotherman, so I think his name was probably John Allen. He also had a grandson named James Burton Reed. John A. Reed (1815-after 1880) married Nancy McKee in Rutherford Co, TN in 1835. Prior to that date, I don't know where he was. Nancy was the daughter of James McKee and Polly Sullivan. Burton is not a common given name and there was a man named Burton Acree born 1795 VA, moved to Rutherford Co from Spartanburg Co, SC who was associated with the family of John A. Reed. If I find out anything else about John A. Reed, I will let you know. I would appreciate it if you would keep me posted on your discoveries. 3. Lisa, I have a Bartlett as a son of Obediah. This same Obediah's grandmother was Sarah Angel. I've not researched the KY line much at all, but have the data from another resarcher, though it is scanty. I will be interested to see if your line tracks back to this Obediah and his dad William Basham, Jr. William's dad William Basham, Sr. was married to Sarah Angel. They both died in Cumberland Co, VA. The data I have lists William Basham, Jr. as a brother of a Bartlett Angel Basham, b. @ 1739, d. @ 1779, though, like I said above, I've not researched this line much at all. Looking forward to hearing from you on this. I'm curious to see if it is, indeed, all the same bunch. Greg "Hall, Lisa" wrote: > My grandfather was (Lawrence) Les Basham, son of Hartwell B. 1. Jacob HALL Sr, NC -> Rutherford Co TN, died 1844
    2. Diane Hall-O'Dell
    3. I'm seeking info on Jacob Hall Sr. who came from NC to TN, 1820 or before, and died in Rutherford Co, TN, 1844. Some say he was married to Elizebeth DAVIS and perhaps Polly MARTIN in N.Carolina before his move to Tennessee, but are there other Jacob Hall's in NC? Children mentioned in Jacob Hall Sr's 1844 will: Drury, William, Glaphory, Charity, Jacob G., Sarah, and Prudence. There are so many Halls in NC with the similar names, I'm a bit bewildered as to who belongs to which line. I would like to know where and when Jacob Hall Sr. was born, who his parents and siblings were, and from whence the parents came, but any info would be greatly appreciated :^) Thanks! 1. Re: [TNRUTHER] John W. Hall Death
    2. Have you checked the yearly tax records? I've been able to find some of my ancestors' dates there. For instance, one year "Mollie Fain" is listed, then the next, it's "Mollie Fain, estate", which indicates she died during the year. A bit slower going, but sometimes helpful.

    3. My grandfather was (Lawrence) Les Basham, son of Hartwell B. Basham, son of Henry, son of Littlebury Basham (who married a Basham - Polly). Littlebury was probably the son of Bartlett Angel Basham Jr. Polly's father was a William, I think. I am at work out of town and don't have any papers with me. This is what I think there is. There were a lot of repetitive first names so some confusion when you get on back a ways. I guess all the Basham's probably started out in Breckenridge Co. My grandparents lived in Edmonson County by the early 1900's. Kyrock, Sweeden and Brownsville. -----Original Message----- From: Greg and Ginger Keeling [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, November 18, 2004 10:31 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TNRUTHER] Anderson/Fletcher Lisa, Kentucky Bashams?
