Please, please, just for kicks, let's enter something besides "TNRUTHER Roll Call" in the subject line of our queries, like for example "Benjamin F. Church, b. ca 1828 TN / Mary C. Thompson, b. ca 1830 TN" - then in the body of the query, we could say something like "Benjamin Franklin Church, b. ca 1828 TN, married Mary Caroline Thompson, b. ca 1830 TN, in Cannon Co., TN, in 1848. In 1850 they were living in Rutherford Co., TN. By 1860 they were in Coffee Co., TN. If you connect to either person, please contact me." If we put more specific information in the subject line, those of us who get 100 or more emails a day could tell at a glance if we have a connection with the people in the query. Thanks and good luck with your research! Carole Hays Quitman, Jackson Parish, Louisiana

Hello from Blue Eye, MO ( near Branson ) by way of Lubbock TX. My name is Merlene REED Lash. I am looking for info on REED, READ, LOVETT, DOXY, BRINTLE, PATTERSON. HICKS Josiah REED moved from North Carolina to Williamson Co., TN. in 1806. with a wife Mary and four children, Nancy, Clement, William and Mary. Robert was born in 1808. Josiah settled on 70 acres at the head of the Harpeth River. I descend from William, b. 1805, NC, married to Thankful Lovett, b 1810 m on 9-8-1830 in Williamson Co. TN Josiah died in either 1839 or 1840. William died in about 1848.Their children: Robert 1832 Mary 1833 James Madison 1834 Jane 1835 Rachael 1839 Benjamin 1844 John 1848. I descend from James Madison. and Lauretta DOXY 1833 m. 1854.(father Daniel DOXY m. to Susanna HICKS about 1821) The James Madison REED family moved to KY duing the Civil War, then to TN in about 1872. They located in Eagleville, Rutherford Co., TN by 1880. James died near Eagleville TN. Would like to know where. Their Children: Sarah 1855, Elizabeth 1856 John 1858 Susan 1861 William Robert 1862 Thankful 1864 Rachael 1866 Annie 1867 James 1870 Jane 1872 Martha 1875 I descend from James Franklin REED b 1870 KY m Beulah Dee BRINTLE b 1880 TN We have a facinating story of why my Grandfather James Franklin REED left TN. The story goes that he was selling .22 rifles to the blacks because they needed them to hunt rabbits and squirells to exist in the troubled times after the War. The Klu Klux Klan told him to stop or else. Of course, he didn't stop. He dug a trench in front of his place, plowed with a saddle on his horse and watched. One day he saw them coming. He unhitched the plow, rode for his ditch, had a shoot out , won, loaded all the bodies in the wagon, took them to Eagleville, dumped them on the town square and headed for Texas. Now if there is any truth to this tale, surely there will be articles in the papers for that period. He was born in 1870. so should have been between 1880 and early 1890's as he went to Texas, then Indian territory and married in 1895 in Oak Dale, OK. . Could some kind soul help prove or lay to rest this wild tale? He was a gun man and he was a lawman in Indian Territory in OK. SOOOO? Would love to hear from all long lost cousins. Merlene

Joan - Who are your Wards? Mine are my gg grandmother, Martha Elizabeth Ward Alford, daughter of Thomas S. Ward and Caroline ?. Melissa
Hey, Mari - I've finally gotten around to starting some of the projects I've been INTENDING to start for ages. A couple of years ago I was at TSLA and purchased the microfilm with old newspapers from Murfreesboro on it. My goal is to pull all the info out of the papers that would be of any genealogical use to anyone and put together in a written format. (That's my GOAL, anyway.....). I've only gotten through the first few papers at this point. It seems that they used to put a list of letters they were holding for people at the post office into the newspaper, letting them know they need to come pick them up or they'll be returned to the "General Post Office as dead letters." I noticed a Barefield in one of the papers and wondered if they were your guys: Listed as having letters waiting in the Post Office in the April 15, 1824 edition of The Courier the following are noted: Blake Barefield, Mrs. Margaret Barefield, Wm. Barefield, Are any of those yours? Makes you wonder what eventually happened to all those "dead letters".... wouldn't that be a treasure trove if they were all bundled up somewhere?????? Melissa
Teresa, I'm on the list but my ancestors come from Macon County. so no names apply, but I am in hopes that Mr Thomas Fowler will add his names as I have lost his email address when my computer got in a snit and died... Becky

Hello Friends, Still researching: ALEXANDER, ALFORD, BARRETT, HOOVER, and WARD My Alexanders show up in Rutherford (From Smith County) between 1840 and 1850, and remain there until late 1890s, when many of them, along with some Alfords and Barretts, moved to Texas. It's my understanding, however, that a bunch of the Barretts are still right there in Rutherford today! Melissa Mayhue Thornton, Colorado

Harriet and the kids went "down the river" alone to Natchez around 1820. Williams is on the 1830 Adams County, MS. census with them. After that aliens attacked and he is lost.
