    3. Researching PHILLIPS, JAMES, AND associated families of Crawford, Ross and Rucker. My GGGG GF, William Phillips was born in Brunswick Co.,VA ca 1775, married Nancy James in 1796, dau of Methodist Preacher Cary James, Sr,, had 4 children, incl Wm. Phillips in 1804. William died in 1805 and widow Nancy R. James Phillips came to Rutherford Co. 1810-1818 (bought property in 1818). Some of Nancy's siblings came with her to RU Co., incl Cary James, Jr. William m. Mary A. Ross, dau of Madison Ross in RU Co in 1831. They had 9 children incl. John L. Phillips (my GG GF) who m. Lockey Crawford (d. of Martha & ? Crawford) in Oct, 1859. They had 2 chldrn, Charles W. (my G GF)and John Marion Phillips Dec.,1860 & Apr. 1863. Lockey d,abt. 1867 and John L. m. Verginia (Jennie) Rucker in Aug.,1869. Apparently Wm. Phillips, John's father died in 1860's and by 1870 widow, Mary A. Ross Phillips and the rest of the siblings of John had moved to Gibson Co as they were in there the 187! 0 census. I believe several of the James family also went to Gibson Co. about the same time thos Nancy James phillips apparently died in RU Co. aft. the 1840 census & before 1850 census. 3. Terry, I have been hoping to hear from you. I think Jesse Reed must have been the son of Revolutionary soldier John Reed b. 1764 Randolph Co, NC. John married Sarah Bolen in 1783 (dau of David Bolen). They left Randolph County in 1793 and went to Washington Co, VA, then various counties in TN, winding up in Bedford Co, near the Rutherford County border where John died in 1839 and Sarah in 1845. The children living at her death are mentioned and Jesse is one of them. I believe my husband is descended from Lemuel Reed, a possible son of this John Reed b. 1764. Abstracts of the pension record show "Sam'l or Lamb Reed." My guess is that this was Lem'l. My husband's known ancestor was John A(llen) Reed b. 1815/16, married 1834 Nancy McKee in Rutherford Co, TN. A deed he made to his father-in-law was witnessed by H. M. Fagan. I have misplaced the copy of the deed but think I may have misread--perhaps it was H. W. Fagan. Have you ever corresponded with Judy Richie? I would like to locate her as she is descended from and has researched Lemuel Reed. Her old e-mail does not work.
