I called the Regional Post Office (This was two years ago..) and asked where I would find "dead letters" from the early 1800s. He laughed at me. I told the guy I was serious and I gave him the info. I was told the letters weren't actually there...they were in a building that houses old papers. I know these places are around..there is one here in Nashville. Apparently you need to be king of the world to get in. The one up here caught on fire and everything got wet. It was a big mess. That was about 10 years or so ago. Melissa and Joan---Interested in your WARD connections...mine trace back to Laneus WARD (1845-1915) as best I can tell--through intermarriage with the WALLER family in the Jefferson area of the county. Sure am interested in sharing info if this connects to your lines... Thanks Ed Waller
