Hello everyone. I am researching some Smith's in Rutherford Co. My John Smith was born in 1801, probably in Dinwiddie Co., VA. One source gives his parentage as John Smith and Mary Puckett but I have been unable to substantiate this. This same source also says he had brothers named Ludwell, James, and Williamson and a sister named Nancy who married John Mosby in Rutherford in 1816. I think that my John may actually be the son of Millington and Elizabeth Matthews Smith. Millington's will recorded there in Rutherford names sons Ludwell, Williamson, and Alexander. My John Smith(1801) married Sarah S. Puckett 1828 in Rutherford. They had two children: James Arthur and John Puckett. Sarah was the daughter of Arthur and Lucy Puckett. Sarah died c1834 and John remarried in Shelby CO., TN and removed to Madison Co., MS. In 1860 he made a trip back to his old homeplace "about ten miles from Murfreesboro, Tenn." and on June 18, 1860 he died there. This information came from his obituary in Madison Co., MS. Does anyone know anything about these Smith's or if there might be a possible obituary from a TN newspaper at that time that may shed some light on my John Smith's family? Any and all help welcome. Thanks, Tracy MacDonald
I am researching these individuals and their families with Rutherford County connections: 4GGF John W. Usselton, b. abt 1790 in Woodford County, KY; d. bef March 1845 in Coffee County, Tennessee 5GGF George Usselton, b. 10 August 1762, Shrewsbury Parish, Kent County, Maryland; d. 24 April 1839 in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee 6GGF: James Meadows b. 1737; m. Eleanor Sherman b. abt 1739 his son Ephriam Meadows b 30 Dec 1768; d. May 1852 in Ruther County, Tennessee
I am researching Johns in Rutherford Co. I am descended from Joseph B. Johns, b. 1776 VA, d. 1839 Rutherford Co., TN. I am interested in him and any of his brothers: Isaac, Abraham, Jacob; or cousins: Edmund, John & Abner who were in Rutherford Co. I have quite a bit of information from Wills & Deeds and census but welcome anything anyone has to share. Also, any information from Giles Co. referring to Johns as Joseph & Isaac were there earlier. I am also interested in Wm. Johns and descendants from early 1800's in Wilson Co., TN especially if anyone can trace this Wilson co. line back to VA to intersect with my Joseph B. Johns line. I also have connections with Clemmons, Lester, Hansberry and Gentry on my grandmothers side and Hubbard and Kellow on my grandfathers side. I have very little on Hubbard & Kellow but am glad to share anything I do have. My Johns line also includes Glover, Barksdale and Vaugh(a)n. Estelle Hall
I'm researching the family of Ben Lillard (1787 Va - 1867 Rutherford Co,Tn). Specifically I'm interested in his sons - Thomas and Mordecai, but would like to learn about the rest of his children too. The children of John Howard show up in the 1860 census living with the Lillard's: Mary Elizabeth P. Howard married Thomas Lillard, Sarah Howard married Mordecai Lillard. There were also Ann, Wilkerson "Wilkie", James, and John Howard. I haven't figured out (yet) what happened to James or Ann. Or how the Howard children came to live with the Lillard's after (I presume) their father's death. Were they related? I'm also researching Richard S. Keele. Thank you! Terri

Thought I would give a few more names and some dates. Hopefully someone will be able to help me out. William Carroll White was married twice. His first wife was Cornelia E. G. (Ellie) Cothran and his second wife was Fannie Hibernia Vernon. Children from the first family were Idella Tennessee Alice, who married John Jordan, Tabitha Ellie, who married Elmore Shack Bennett, and Ada Frances, who married S. L. White. Children from the second marriage were Crawford J. G., William D., Betty B., Ola Mae, John Washington, Robert E., Mary D., Tinsley Vernon, Henry Roy, Julia Ann, and Frank Hollis White. William White, 6/11/1811 - 2/26/1874, (supposedly murdered by son-in-law James N. Puckett) and Eliza Taylor 11/25/1817 - 8/8/1868, were the parents of William Carroll White. Siblings of William Carroll White were Julia Ann(Dr. Amasa Webb Manier), Mary Frances(James Nathaniel Puckett), Amanda, John T., Sarah C. T., Joseph C., Martha Jane(William Carroll Taylor), and Margaret. Eliza Taylor's parents were Robert Taylor, 1799 - 1846, and Eliza Branch, ---- - 1846. Eliza Branch's parents were Benjamin Branch, 1740 - 1819, and Nancy Neblet. I haven't studied beyond Robert Taylor and William White. They are two lines I want to explore. Robert Taylor, by family lore, is said to be the nephew of President Zachery Taylor. I don't have proof for that, just family lore. Anyone have any help for me? Johnny
