Hello, I am wondering if anyone has identified (in today's geography) the counties/place of residence of the signers of the 1787 Petition regarding the Lost State of Franklin, one of many online versions of which can be found here: http://members.tripod.com/tracers/franklin.htm I am particularly interested in whether the Thomas Williams there might be Thomas Williams found 40 years later in Cocke Co TN, who I believe maybe father of James Williams b. there who dies 1842 in Moniteau Co Missouri. Cocke is burned before Civil War, but there is blessedly a transcription of a Survey Book at the Sevier County website, which can be viewed here scrolling down: http://www.sevierlibrary.org/ahgp/coc.htm That's about as close as we'll get to deed books for early settlers, and will be added to soon by a database of the early TN land grants for Sevier and Cocke Counties. Or might the above Thomas Williams, be connected to the later Judge Thomas L. Williams? Thanks in advance, Janet Hunter
