Last weekend, RootsWeb temporary went off-line to perform maintenance of its servers and hosting process. Most of the services came back on-line Sunday evening. One of the services that RootsWeb provides, the Search Engine for the USGenWeb Archives, remains off-line. When you attempt to use the Search Engine you may see the following: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/htsearch on this server. That is an automated notice that is part of the Search Engine software. It means that work is being done on the Search Engine, and it is not aimed at anyone personally. We have suggested that RootsWeb provide a more meaningful message so that users would understand what is going on. I am hopeful that the Search Engine will return to full service shortly.
