    3. 131 years ago at this time of year, there was a cholera epidemic that was raging throughout the southern portion of the United States. In Tennessee, the first case was reported in Shelby County on 15 April 1873. By August, cases were reported in Carter and Hawkins Counties in East Tennessee. Congress ordered a study of the outbreak and that a report be made to the President and submitted to Congress. President U.S. Grant presented the report to Congress on 12 January 1875.
