    1. [TNROOTS] Susanna Martha GIBSON b. New Market, Jefferson Co. TN abt. 1791
    2. Tom
    3. Hi all I am still trying to nail down the marriage of Susanna Martha GIBSON b. New Market, Jefferson Co. TN abt. 1791. I know that she was in Martin Co. IN as early as 1830 living with her husband Benjamin COOPER. They are still there until sometime in 1871 when they moved down to Delaware Co. IN where she died on 21 Mar 1871 and is buried next to Benj. COOPER at the Rees Cemetery, Perry Township, Delaware Co. IN. I've been told that Benj. COOPER married contrary to discipline in OH and was disowned by the Society of Friends February 24, 1814. But my understanding is that the GIBSONs were long time members of the Society. So how could he married contrary if he married Garrett GIBSON's daughter? ANYWHO.... I am unable to find any records for the MM in Jefferson Co. TN, I think it was New Market! Can anyone please help?? I would also love to find out the names of their children. I know one of them married a SMITH because 5 of his SMITH grandchildren are living with him in Baker Twp, Martin Co. IN in 1850. Here are the census records for a 30 yr period between 1850 and 1880: 1850 Benj. COOPER listed as 63 Yrs old b. in SC Susan his wife was listed as born in NC age 58 Grandchildren: Benj. SMITH age 20 Amilia SMITH age 18 Susanna SMITH age 15 Malinda SMITH age 12 Casander SMITH (Male) age 10 Amanda SMITH age 8 Docia (Dorca) SMITH age 3 1860 Census of Martin Co. IN, Baker Township Benj. COOPER listed as 75 yrs olf b. in SC Wife Susan age 67 b. in NC Docia age 14 born in IN 1870 Baker Twp. Martin Co. IN Benj. COOPER listed as 86yrs old b. in GA Wife Susan age 76 b. in TN Cooper, Benjamin age 84 born GA Cooper Susan age 76 born TN Smith Docia age 24 born IN 1880 Monroe Township, Delaware Co. 2. Thank you Darlene. Informed citizens are a big step toward preventing the destruction and loss of our cemeteries. If you have problems when you try the link for SavingGraves from Darlene's email, take out the period at the end. It should be like this: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/tn/state/index.html Also check the Friends of Metro Archives website for a list of Nashville area cemeteries with contact information, addresses, phone numbers, etc.: http://www.geocities.com/metroarchives/cemeteries.html

    2. Jim, Thank you for the checking into this. Because of this I have found Andrew Stout's wife's full name and the decendants of Black John Stout's brother. You have opened up one of my brick walls, YYYiiippppyyyyy!!!! It is at the Hitchcock Family site you sent. Since Ike's (Andrew and Elizabeth Hitchcock McCoy's son) taxes were paid on 101 aces near the community of Dry Creek, And Isaac Hitchcock is burried at Dry Creek, Also I found a Dry Creek School in Hardin Co. that was listed as historial at the USGS site Bill sent me yesturday, I would bet Dry creek is/was more than just a dry creek bed. I'm all hopped up now, with this new info I'll be here all day like a bird dog broke to wing and shot, till someone tapps me on the side. (more like pushes me out of this chair LOL) Thanks again.......I am on the scent........ <<> I found the below which implies that the mentioned 'Dry Creek' is a > community and not just the creek - had it been, I think they would have > said 'on Dry Creek', but this does seem to link well to the above data.>>> "Sty yu Oginali(i)" <Tsalagi/Cherokee> (Have Strength in Your Journey my Friend(s)!) 1. [TNROOTS] Cholera Epidemic of 1873
    2. Javan Michael DeLoach
    3. 131 years ago at this time of year, there was a cholera epidemic that was raging throughout the southern portion of the United States. In Tennessee, the first case was reported in Shelby County on 15 April 1873. By August, cases were reported in Carter and Hawkins Counties in East Tennessee. Congress ordered a study of the outbreak and that a report be made to the President and submitted to Congress. President U.S. Grant presented the report to Congress on 12 January 1875. Images of the Tennessee portion of that report may be viewed at URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tn/misc/cholera/ A text file of the Title pages is available at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/misc/cholera.txt Mike FM, Tennessee USGenWeb Archives

    1. [TNROOTS] Census Lookup for MAYNES
    2. I have seen an index which says William T. MONIS is in District 22, page 5A in Weakley County, Tennessee in 1920. I believe this name to be MAYNES or MANESS or MANIS and, as usual, Ancestry.com is down. They must be working on Tennessee, because Weakley County isn't even listed there now. Sure would appreciate someone checking this for me. This is a major brick wall for me. Thanks, Peggy

    1. RE: [TNROOTS] Dry Creek community? Stout/Austin/Hubbard
    2. Dody - A mapquest.com search for 'Dry Creek, TN' returns a community in East Tennessee, southwest of Johnson Ciry and northwest of Erwin in what looks like Greene County. There is a Dry Creek which feeds Pickwick Lake in Hardin County - just to the north of Lauderdale County, Alabama. I found the below which implies that the mentioned 'Dry Creek' is a community and not just the creek - had it been, I think they would have said 'on Dry Creek', but this does seem to link well to the above data. found at: http://www.couchgenweb.com/family/hitch.htm "Isaac Hitchcock was on the Hardin Co. Tennessee Census 1850. A number of these descendants are still living in this areaHe was born in Rowan Co. North Carolina & is burried in the Hitchcock Cemetery at Dry Creek in Hardin Co. Tenn."
