Hello Folks, I am new to this list and hope we can exchange some data. Most of my work so far has been in VA, SC, GA, and AL but now the trail has led to TN. I need help finding a marriage record (implied or actual) for an Edward WADE b. 1760 VA (probably b. in Pittsylvannia Co VA) who married a Nancy or Ann (surname unknown). I believe this marriage took place in TN. The father of Edward WADE received land grants (from Rev. War service) in the Sullivan Co area of TN and in the late 1770s or early 1780s they moved from VA to TN. I suspect the marriage of Edward WADE and Nancy/Ann UNKNOWN would have been between 1778-1790. Does anyone know if there are abstracts of these early TN marriages? This Edward was the son of Edward and Mary Clements WADE. Siblings of Edward are: Lucy, David, Grissel, Peyton, Richard, James, Mary, Thomas, and Chloe. I believe all these folks were born in VA. About 1790 the family split up and left TN with some going to Greene Co GA and others going to Pendleton Dist SC. I know a great deal about this family but very little about Edward and his wife Nancy (or Ann). I would very much appreciate any assistance in finding the maiden name of Nancy. Thank you, Eldon mailto:ewade@cfl.rr.com Researching: WADE, HAMES

Those of you with ancestors in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Florida might be interested in a workshop to be held in cooperation with the National Archives and Records Administration's Southeast Region in Atlanta, Georgia, from October 13-18, 2002. The workshop includes instruction and hands-on research in a variety of original NARA records, from census to District Court and Confederate Court cases, prison records, military records, Internal Revenue Service tax assessments, land entry claims and land cessions under Creek, Chickasaw, and Choctaw treaties, and records of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Hi, I am searching for my great-grandfather, WILLIAM HOUSTON JONES. His mother was MARGARET JONES and his father was an unknown HOWARD. They were not married. He was raised by his grandparents, WILLIAM JONES and MARTHA 'PATSY" JONES. He was born on April 15, 1873 at Morgan County, Tennessee and died January 7, 1940. He was married to NANCY ANN HOWARD. Ring a bell? Also, you might want to explore my cousin's website: http://johnsrealmonline.com/genealogy/main.html He is very young, in college and has a great website. He includes a lot of sources, and cemetery photos. There are a ton of Tennessee Howards on there. He started doing genealogy in high school. Before computers. I am going to give a little plug to my cousin, John Brown's website. I met him online through GEN-NEWBIE. He started his genealogy project in high school without a computer. They traveled the State of Tennessee taking pictures in cemeteries, gathering information, etc. His site really took shape last year. He sites a lot of sources. The main state is Tennessee, however there are others. http://johnsrealmonline.com/genealogy/main.html

HAVE A SAFE HOLIDAY WEEKEND !!!!
>From "My Trees Newsletter": Ask Us - What do you mean Junior and Senior doesn't mean a father and son relationship and a Cousin wasn't a relative at all? During the 1700s the terms Junior and Senior were often conveniences used by colonial families who lived in rural communities. These terms were used merely to distinguish between two person who lived in the same locality, had the same name, and were of different generations. Sometimes the men were related sometimes not. It was quite common in the Southern United States. These designations were usually not permanent either. Whether your ancestors wore blue or gray in the American Civil War, the East Tennessee Historical Society is offering a free workshop to help find your familys Civil War story. The free class will be held 2 to 4 p.m. (Central Time) on Saturday, August 24, 2002, in the Cherry Theatre on the campus of Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tennessee. The instructor, Dr. George K. Schweitzer, is a popular, nationally known lecturer and author of nineteen genealogy research books. Participants will learn how to determine if an ancestor served in the Civil War and how to locate records for both Confederate and Union veterans. Participants do not need Tennessee ancestors to participate since the information will be useful to researchers regardless of their ancestors home state. Why is the East Tennessee Historical Society bringing free genealogy programs to Middle Tennessee? The classes are a celebration and introduction to a new statewide initiative sponsored by ETHS to track down descendants of Civil War soldiers who lived, fought, or died in the Volunteer State. The new heritage program, Civil War Families of Tennessee, celebrates the unique role of individuals in Tennessees Civil War story. The workshop is co-sponsored locally by Maury County Archives. For additional information about the free workshop contact the Maury County Archives at 931-381-1565 or visit the ETHS web site at http://www.east-tennessee-history.org. I am trying to find info on my great grandfather, WALTER A. COOPER. I know that he was born in Jackson, Tennessee. However, cannot find a date of birth/death. He was living in Springfield, Mass, at the time of my grandmother's birth on Oct. 11, 1911. (Myrtle Elisa Cooper). He was married to ANNA LOUISE JONES. Other children (that I know of was Beatrice and Esther). He worked as a Painter. Are there any TN-Coopers that can help?
Would it be possible to put a space between each address so they are easier for usoldsters to read. Think it would be appreciated by many. Thanks, Juanita Morley
