I have a cousin, who lives in Texas, her name is Wanda Hurst Helton. Her husband is a grandson of John & Lutisha, which are buried in the Liberty Hill Cem.,Grainger,TN. I went to visit them a while back and while I was out there,I took a copy of one of their pictures.I have a picture of John & Lutisha with the following kids: Ibby Beeler, married a Frye Rachel Beeler, married Ernest Helton Jossie Beeler Nancy Beeler Issac Beeler Vinie Beeler they also had other kids Laura,Cora,Rose,& Feldon If anyone is interested in seeing the photo, just reply & I will email you a copy. So far I have gotten John Beeler's death record also,if anyone would like that.It states that Ike Beeler & Nancy Wolfenbarger are his parents. I have found the Goin family in the 1860-Claiborne Census Ralph Goin 29 Mary 26 Letitia 5 Pleasant 3 Rachel 1 then I checked with the marriage records & learned that in 1854,Ralph Goins & Mary A. Goodman married. I hope that someone out there can help me out some more. I used to live in Claiborne, but now I live in Union Co.TN
Hi I decended from the marriage of Susanna Martha GIBSON (d/o of Garrett GIBSON and Prudence Beals SUMNER) and Benjamin COOPER (s/o Benjamin COOPER the Quaker and Ferribee SANDERS) they were married Bef. 24 Feb 1814 location unknown. Susanna was born Abt. 1791 in or around East Market, Jefferson Co. TN and Benjamin was born on 17 Sep 1786 most likely in Bush River MM, SC or Wrightsborough Twp. Columbia Co. GA. By 1830 they were both in Baker Twp., Martin Co. IN and remained there until sometime in the 1870s when what was left of the family moved to Monroe Twp. Delaware Co. IN. Both Benjamin and Susanna are buried at the Rees Cemetery, Perry Township, Delaware Co. IN. I am sorry to say that I know little of their children except for Rosannah COOPER who married Jonas SMITH on 25 Jul 1827 in Davies Co. IN. I would love to find out more of their lives in Martin Co. as it seems they may have been very early settlers there. Both Garret GIBSON and Benjamin COOPER Sr. were Quakers. However, for some reason Benjamin Jr. was disowned by the Society of Friends on February 24, 1814 for marrying contrary to discipline. I can only guess since both families were Quaker, it was because Susanna was not yet of age to marry or they married in a non-Quaker church. I am willing to share and exchange what little information I have with anyone interested on open list. If these folks belong to anyone please contact Lori at the e-mail address below: o I have five old photographs that belong to my neighbor. I am trying to help her find out who, where and when about them. She has had them for about 30 years but cannot remember where she got them. She believes they are part of the history of the ROLLER or MOORE families from east Tennessee or the BENTON family of Scott County, Virginia. 1. A black and white portrait of a very pretty elderly lady wearing a black dress with buttons around the edge of its white collar. No other identification. 2. Small black and white paper photo pasted onto stiff board. Young lady in a black dress with a stiff ruffle collar and what looks like a watch chain across her chest. She is standing in front of a field scene and white column, with one hand resting on some kind of tall skinny haystack. No other identification. 3. Small black and white paper photo pasted onto stiff board. Young girl sitting on a stool, holding a banjo. Name on bottom of card: "Daisy BELMONT" 4. Two small black and white paper photos pasted onto stiff board. Twins possibly, infants, one boy, one girl, I think, both seated and wearing dresses. These two do have the name and address of the photographer, I think: C. F. COOK, ? South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. If you recognize any of these or think you might be able to help identify them, please contact me. Sorry, I thought I had sent you this. The Spring Hill Cemetery in Davidson Co. has a Harding lot and a Wm. J. Sanders is interred in the cemetery. >From "Tennessee Records Tombstone Inscriptions and Manuscripts" Compiled by Jeanette Aklen, published 1933. p. 83 Spring Hill Cemetery, Gallatin Pike, Nashville, Tenn Wm J. Sanders, Oct. 2, 1906 age, 65 years. There is a Harding Lot in the cemetery and the burials in that lot are given on pages 79 and 80. The book does not seem to indicate that Wm. J. Sanders is buried on the Harding lot, just that he is in the cemetery.
Is anyone out there researching the Couts family? I'm not related in any way but thought I might share an article that came out in the Sunday Los Angeles Times Newspaper. It doesn't say where in TN the family is from but if anyones interested I'll get it typed up and over to you. The two Gentlemen mentioned are Cave Johnson Couts and his brother William Blount Couts. Contact me off the list if you're related... it's really a great article about them. Pamela Burnette Your List Manager

Hello Southern Cousins, Have been researching my gggrandfather, David C. Shaw. Born 1840 in Washington County Virginia. Family possibly from Hawkins County Tenn. Family members may be Mary Shaw(b.1800?), Rebecca Shaw(b.1777) . It is known he had 3 brothers, all served in the civil war(split sides). Address for David in 1861 was Austin Mills , Tenn. No father listed in census in 1840 or 1850 Washington Co. Does anyone have any information on this family? I have military info on David and his life from 1877 to present. Looking for his past. You can find a lot of United States Cemeteries get directions and maps at http://findagrave.com/ Find A Grave. The site also allows you to find the graves of ancestors, create virtual memorials, add 'virtual flowers' and a note to a loved one's grave, etc. Terry
Whether your ancestors wore blue or gray in the American Civil War, the East Tennessee Historical Society is offering a free workshop to help find your familys Civil War story. The free class will be held 2 to 4 p.m. (Central Time) on Saturday, September 21, 2002, in the Gallatin City Hall in Gallatin, Tennessee. The instructor, Dr. George K. Schweitzer, is a popular, nationally known lecturer and author of nineteen genealogy research books. Participants will learn how to determine if an ancestor served in the Civil War and how to locate records for both Confederate and Union veterans. Participants do not need Tennessee ancestors to participate since the information will be useful to researchers regardless of their ancestors home state. The classes are a celebration and introduction to a new statewide initiative sponsored by ETHS to track down descendants of Civil War soldiers who lived, fought, or died in the Volunteer State. The new heritage program, Civil War Families of Tennessee, celebrates the unique role of individuals in Tennessees Civil War story. The workshop is co-sponsored locally by the Gallatin Bicentennial Celebration Committee, Inc. For additional information about the free workshop visit the ETHS web site at http://www.east-tennessee-history.org.
The East Tennessee Historical Society regrets to announce the 2002 Fall Tour to Savannah, Georgia, has been canceled. There are no plans at this time to reschedule the trip. However, we invite you to make plans to join us in Spring 2003 for our first European tour as ETHS takes you on a journey to the ancestral homelands of East Tennessee's Scotch-Irish settlers. Additional information on the tour of Scotland, Ireland, and Northern Ireland, as well as other ETHS programs and activities, can be found on the ETHS web site at www.east-tennessee-history.org We apologize for any inconvenience this schedule change may have caused.
