Hi All, Due to computer and email problems, i've been unable to do much. I have been searching for more detailed info at, "The Tennessee archives in relation to "Cherokees who became Tennessee Citizens". My only conclusion: "people of color" were apparently not considered eligible for citizenship until "Acts of Tennessee 1831-1850". As there has been one mention of Indian blood and my own observation that a FARMER 3rd cousin who became my Great Aunt, by marriage into my AMOS line, had a darkish color and tho did not have Indian features, did have some unusual characteristics, though not as remember the Indians of Montana. This line begins in 1818 with Rebecca WILSON marrying Wm. FARMER in Blount County. The likelyhood that a "white" who wed an Indian was usually a male. I have found some Cherokee WILSONs who were granted Citizenship to Tennessee in 1833. Rebecca is among the list which is likely one family and hopefully I will find that she is the key to my WILSON families. Does anyone have more details asto this Act? I sure would appreciate any additional info. Thanks, Jim

Is there any KELLER family that lived in TN around 1811? After reading that Indiana was admitted to the Union, on December 11, 1816, as the 19th state, I am wondering if in 1811, December 29 when my gg grandfather was born it may have been TN at that period of time. The military records of when he volunteered for the Black Hawk War 1832, he listed that he was born in TN. Would appreciate any help as I am unable to find out who his parents were, or if he had brothers and sisters. Thank you, Kate Keller Bourland

To list readers, I wonder if any readers of this list have been researching WILSON surname. I trying to find any information regarding a George Wilson a merchant in Nashville TN sometime in the 1840s (or thereabouts). I know for a fact that he was "an English gentleman", that he married Eugenia G Kingsley in June 1836, and later had to raise three small children of his (all under the age of 4 years) when his wife died suddenly in 1841. It would seem that someone from England living in Nashville at that time would have received some attention in documented history of the period in Tennessee, especially Nashville as it probably did not have a large population. davidk
Hello all, If you have ANYONE tied into N.E. TN, I would encourage you to check out our website. We have identified over 90,000 folks that were born, lived or died in Claiborne County, TN. prior to 1910. The bugs are now worked out of the Claiborne County Pioneer Project update. We knew they weren't in the alphabetical order that we have all become accustomed to. The program that's used burped or something but it looks good now. I want to encourgage you all to subscribe to this online newsletter. Here's just one little article. Previously published in MISSING LINKS, Vol. 7, No. 40, 6 October 2002 http://www.petuniapress.com o I posted a week or so ago about some old photographs my neighbor here in east Tennessee was trying to identify. I have since placed them online for viewing at freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~search4people/index.html freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~search4people/oldphoto4.jpg freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~search4people/oldphoto5.jpg I have since found out that the young girl holding a banjo, Daisy BELMONT, was quite possibly a performer with the SELLS Brothers Show in Pennsylvania. I also believe that the other small cardboard photos are possibly from the area of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The elderly lady I'm still not sure about. If you might recognize them or have any ideas, please e-mail me. Lori Craiger lorilpn11@yahoo.com LETTER FROM THE EDITOR. Perhaps you noticed that after the 1 September 2001 change from a mailing list of nearly a million at RootsWeb to a mailing list elsewhere starting over from scratch, the circulation of MISSING LINKS peaked 11 months ago at around 18,300, since when it has lost ground, inching inexorably toward oblivion. As there is no income from this effort, there are no funds for advertising. Clearly word-of-mouth isn't working very well, as the circulation has dwindled to about 17,000. Fewer readers mean fewer articles, stories, letters, and small miracles. The "staff" consists of one person, your editor. It is frustrating to spend as much time and to work as hard to continuously diminishing effect in these reduced circumstances as I did with nearly a million readers and a salary. I can't continue much longer as things are. Petunia Press needs to attract more advertisers or devise another way to generate income. Advertisers like lovely large numbers, which Petunia Press cannot offer them. Of course, MISSING LINKS and SOMEBODY'S LINKS will never be able to compete with the big guys (RootsWeb, Ancestry, et al.), but five years ago or so, before its move to RootsWeb, the circulation of MISSING LINKS was 25,000+. A return to the status quo ante RootsWeb would be a long stride forward and might make enough of a difference. Every week I implore you to tell your friends about MISSING LINKS and its offspring SOMEBODY'S LINKS, and how to find them at Petunia Press http://www.petuniapress.com/. While I have not drawn a line in the sand, the end of this year is a target date for reassessment and decision-making that is rattling around in the back of my mind. So, there you have it. If you would like for MISSING LINKS and SOMEBODY'S LINKS to continue, please do what you can to help spread the word. Thanks.

From: <A HREF="mailto:timwest@COX.NET">timwest@COX.NET</A> I updated the Scott Co, TN Website last night. See below for list of updates. Many thanks to the many people who have donated information for posting on the website. The vast majority of this month's update originates from the website's many visitors. In fact there is so much donated information that I didn't get it all loaded this month. I still have: cemetery transcriptions for the Smith-Forbus cemetery from Lynna-Ruth Standridge, bible transcriptions from the Thomas and Susannah Boyatt bible (published 1813) donated by BJ Boyatt, a number of pictures and obits donated by Debbie Reynolds, CW pension papers donated by Debi Koch, a Charles Powers West picture donated by Benny Ellis, some obituaries from John Crabtree, pictures from Myra Marcum, a mid-1900s Reed journal from Myra Marcum, some articles on the Helenwood explosion from Sue Posey, and indexes to the SCHS newsletters donated by Claude Cheatham. I also have a ton of headstone pictures I took this last summer too. And I have been looking into ways to allow you to enter marriage information and reunion information directly to the website (requires some programming on my part). I will try my darndest to get to these things in Oct. ...tim west... Hello Cousins, Dusti just finished up the update for the Claiborne County Pioneer Project! If you have ANYONE from NE TN, you should really check out our website. I'm happy to say that over 10,000 new folks have been identified since the last update! Who'd of thought 2 years ago when the online part of the project started with 30,000 folks identified as having been born, lived or died in Claiborne County that we'd be up to the current level of well over 90,000 identified. The site has had almost 122,000 hits in the past 2 years and Denny, Marla, Dusti and myself are very proud of that achievement. <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ccpp/pioneer/index.htm">Claiborne County Pioneer Project</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ccpp/pioneer/index.htm Click on "NAMES" for the index We have a few new links that need to be added, and it's not to late to add yours if you have one. Just send it over to me. You'll also notice on the front page down at the bottom right, that a new website for the Claiborne County Cemetery Association has been added. We're going to have an auction to raise funds for the Preservation of the Cemeteries for the Association but I'll send you more info on that in the next few days. My Thanks to Denny and Marla Brubaker for their commitment to this project. They are truly wonderful folks to know. They are two of the most generous people on earth. The next most generous person is my cousin Dusti who spends many, many hours updating the website and doing all the other websites for Claiborne County that I seem to easily talk her into! lol Without these people so many of you wouldn't have the info that you've been able to get about your families. Enjoy!
