Of course most are just witnesses to selling of land but some are about the people selling their own land or possessions or slaves. These are from 1763. 1. [TNROOTS-L] New Rootsweb lists for the traveling genealogist
    2. Libbie Griffin
    3. Are you planning to travel to the homeplaces of your ancestors? Or have you already become an experienced traveling genealogist? Or do you live in an area many people visit to search for their ancestors? If so, you are invited to participate in two new lists on Rootsweb. GEN-TRAVEL-US and GEN-TRAVEL-EUROPE are lists created for sharing travel information for genealogists. Topics for the list include: - basic information such as the location and hours of local libraries and government offices. - advice about good places to stay, to eat, etc. - information about getting around, connecting to the internet, coping in an unfamiliar place, etc. - any other question, recommendation or opinion related to traveling in search of your ancestors. People living in destination areas are expecially encourgaged to join the lists. Be a good-will ambassador for your town or state by answering the questions of visitors. By participating you may make some new long-distance friendships. Experienced travelers are also sought -- please share your opinions and the benefit of your experience with others. These lists are available in both regular and digest modes. To join, just send the word "subscribe" to: [email protected] (for the U.S. list) or [email protected] (for all of Europe including the British Isles.) For the digest mode, substitute the letter D for -L- above. If you have questions about either list, contact me at [email protected] Thanks! Libbie Griffin

    3. Well Beth, I will join you in the b.....file. I'm so sick and tired of these "the fifth grade class is having ......"I raised my five children (all honor students) and most of my 13 grandchildren have done just fine without it. I do not care to get involved with any of this, and if the truth be known, they are probably selling the addresses for spam--ever thought of that? I refuse to be involved with some bunch of goofy stuff. While we're at it, please be informed that there is no "payment for names for sick children" or anyof the other things.....look into the HOAX websites for a change. Thanks....don't bother writing.....I have to unsubscribe anyway until after Thanksgiving, maybe you'll all be over your fury by then. 3. I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. My sources are the following....... There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of some 13000 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. .I also wish to thank the patience of those regular subscribers for my frequent postings. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. Please see my website which is dedicated to those who passed through the gates of Andersonville Kevin Please visit my homepage at http://www.angelfire.com/ga2/Andersonvilleprison/index.html

    3. Kevin, I wouldn't have a clue...there is a picture of his son, wearing some sort of medal....someone told me that they were civil war medals.....I've searched everywhere I know to for Charles Strickland before 1850 and after 1860 and I've come up empty....I saw your message and I thought, "why not try"..... He was in Georgia during the Civil War....I would "guess" he would've been a Confederate...although I know that his being in Georgia doesn't prove his alliance was with the South.... I'm just grasping at straws.... Thanks anyway, Toni

We all need to remember this List is for Genealogy and genealogy related material only. If someone has 'mixed feelings' on a subject matter that they wish to discuss that is NOT genealogy, please write that person directly, NOT the List. As the EX Listowner of this group, I'm sorry to see this happening. Please observe Rootsweb's rules...... Shirley Willett
