Oct 12, 1763 from Joseph Talley of L, to Jeffrey Russel of L, for 20 E, a certain tract of land of about 50 acres in L in the fork of Pine Creek, and bounded by Jeffery Russel's line on the north fork of Pine Creek, bring part of the tract of land granted to the said Jeffrey Russel by patent dated Aug 16,1756, Signed - Joseph (+ his mark) Talley. Witness- Henry (H his mark) Talley, David Williams, John (+++ his mark) Floyd. Recorded April 12, 1764

Hello all, I have been searching for info on this Russell family for so long and have yet to run across even one Russell cousin. They moved back and forth between Monroe, Mich. and Claiborne County, TN. several times chasing jobs with the auto industry. Can anyone help me with information on Charles L. Ruffin - Johnson City TN I'm trying to help a fellow-Ruffin researcher, and hoped someone on this List might give us some leads. Charles L. Ruffin was the civil engineer who built the Black Mountain Railway and other railroads. ** As part of my research on the Black Mountain Railway, I am interested in one Charles L. Ruffin, who was a civil engineer and promoter of that lumber-hauling road in North Carolina. In particular, I would like to locate any papers or other effects that might have survived from his building of that line from 1910 to about 1913. Here is what I know about the man: Ruffin as born 1866 in Virginia. (descendant of the famous Edmund Ruffin line) He had a wife Mary, born 1875-1878 in Maryland; daughters Mary (b. 1897), Henrietta (b. 1895?), and Ella(b. 1905), and son Charles L. Jr.(b. 1901). In 1900, he lived in Richmond VA. In 1910 he lived at 401 Holston Avenue, Johnson City TN. (Don't know if family was with him in TN or not) He worked with South and Western RailRoad as division engineer. "I began service with that road in November 1905 and had charge of the location of what was known as the Fourth Division, from Spruce Pine (NC), to a point opposite Embreeville (TN) on the Nolichucky River. " Ruffin was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, but they could not tell me anything else about him. Virginia
