I am shocked at the response to Beth. Do a favor and people jump down your throat. This isn't very nice at all. Suppose that her answers to the list help some lost soul a year from now because it's now sitting in our archives. It wasn't all that bad and you can always hit the delete key! I am glad that our messages get archived, and it's not that different from the exchanges that go on our list all the time! Did it make most of you angry because none of it helped you? If this is your attitude, then SHAME ON YOU! Beth has always given of herself. Her name is quite familiar to me. I saw her post and knew right away that folks were getting good info from a kind person. Heaven forbid, you should ever need her assistance. I can't believe the attitudes here. Beth, you apologized which was sweet, however, I feel that it was unnecessary. You didn't do anything wrong, and if any of you haven't ever made a mistake, then only you have the right to complain about this! (No show of hands? I thought not.) Beth, no need for apologies. Consider yourself warmly commended for your kindness and thoughtfulness, and let not the Grinch steal your joy--I'm referring to [email protected] who speaks of courtesy yet omits his own name. He's the one who should be chided. Folks like you have filled in many gaps for me along the way, by sheer serendipity. Again, my warm thanks and appreciation. Norman E. Please tell me how to unsubscribe to (TNROOTS) I have tried several time to no avail. Thanks, bstrain
Yes I agree, so many people miss finding their family simply because people reply to others privately. They might be researching a sibling of the person you are looking for..I don't understand a problem. Isn't this list for genealogy? This is part of genealogy. Folks, Hey look. Beth did a very nice thing and was related to Genealogy. I also believe the individual was "off base" correcting her. I think by now Beth gets the jest of all these apologies. These are not related to Genealogy. Please get back to what this list is really intended for. We all would appreciate it. Ron Sanders Prospect, KY
Hi Beth, I can't image any one being upset with you for sending them in error on the list. I would be grateful for receiving them any such way and you need a great deal of thanks for taking your time to help other people in there search except for volunteers like you it would be very difficult for us researches who live so far away to get information. Isn't it sad, there are so many mean spirited people in this world? I for one appreciate Beth's effort and like the fact that the responses were posted to the list. There are allot of people with roots in Tenn. My family might have been mentioned. I thought this was what this list was all about, family. Marcia
Hello all, Please forgive me, I did not know that when I did the 1850 lookups for last night only, that so many of my replies went to the list. I was so busy doing the lookups I'm afraid I did not realize that some people were not sending them to me privately so I replied and then later realized when my copies came back thast I had replied to them on the list. I am sorry. I placed my e-mail address on the first posting so they would know where to write. And I know some people were mad at me for doing this but I honestly did not realize. I won't d anymore lookups I promise. Also people are still sending me requsts when I thought it was clear I was doing them last night only, as I had the time then. Please no more requests. Again for those of you who were angry with me. Forgive me. God bless, Beth [email protected]
Well, group ... I was gonna stay out of this one, honest ... but maybe it's time for this newbie to voice an opinion on this issue. One of the reasons I joined this list was to try to find information about my own lines. One of the members here made an open and extremely generous offer of her time last night to try to help some of us. As I saw those posts coming through, it was very interesting and frankly, it caused me to have some hope that eventually MY family would be found, because I saw others being found. Maybe I joined the wrong list .. I thought this was a place for SHARING, not for sniping. Beth's apologizing this morning for doing such a nice thing to try to help us was the last straw. There was no reason to berate her for trying to help. OPEN NOTE TO WHOMEVER COMPLAINED .. if you didn't like the subject matter as listed in the heading ... might I respectfully suggest that you get acquainted with the little button on the right side of your keyboard. It's called DELETE .. and when you highlight a message and hit that key .. it goes away and you don't have to be bothered with the rest of us. For the record .. even though I was not able to get information last night because I signed on too late ... I enjoyed seeing the others get positive results. And I was pleased to see that this list is one that pulls together to help each other. Sorry if I was mistaken .. I'll go back to lurking now ... and please don't bother to flame me, because I DO know how to use the delete key. Maggie
I agree... I checked every one in the hopes that one of my step children's ancestors was mentioned. no such luck, though. <sigh> I also *watch* the TN-CENSUS list for the same reason. List shared *finds* can be helpful to more that one person. Dear Beth: Thanks for the compliment but I really have a lot of white hair on this old head!!! Stephen was born in 1830 & came to US in 1847 & married in Clarksville in 1855. I suppose he was boarding somewhere in that 8 years. Just can't find where he was and what he did for work. Thanks much. Jo...
