Reg.,USA was organized Sept. 29,1864, mustered out at Nashville, Aug.25,1865 Lieutenant Colonel J.H. Blackburn commanding. They were stationed at Alexandria,Tn. April 25, Colonel Blackburn was instructed to detach four companies to LaFayette,Tn.Be glad to send to the individual interested in the companies history. John f thornton was my gg grandaddy I don't know much about him he's on the internet for application pensions i forgot how i found it i heard they came from england but not sure i don't know anything about brothers or sisters or his parents. humphreys county waverly tn is 65 miles west of nashville tn it's a small community it's going toward memphis on I 40 it's Lorettas lynn hometown where she lives right now. he married chressie or caressie or cressie either lofton or laxton. he had a son hiram r thornton he married ollie gibson and they had john william thornton she died and i believe they were in benton county and she is buried in humphreys county his daughter said that he told her that he could remember taking her by conoe and going across the tennessee river into humphries county to bury her. hiram later married minnie buchanan curtis and they had lionel,leland,dorothy who married hebert scheetz they moved to missouri hiram did lionel and possibly leland were born in w! averly and then they moved to missouri lionel died lived in cape girado missouri thats where ssindex had last known residence. John Thomas moved to Mississippi in about 1847. He fought in the Civil War as a private in Ashcrafts Mississippi Regiment and received a flesh wound while fighting in Atlanta on July 28, 1864. He married twice and was the father of twenty-two children. He applied for his war pension on August 6, 1906 which stated he was 83 years old living at RFD No. 1, Pontotoc, Mississippi with his son Edd. John died on March 3, 1909 in Lee County, Mississippi and is buried at Pontocola Cemetery. He married first on July 17, 1850 to Mary Ann Cole who was born September 9, 1829 the daughter of Larkin Cole and died April 19, 1873. She is also buried at Pontocola Cemetery along with Viola Lambert a grand daughter who was born October 23, 1892 and died September 27, 1899. John married second on January 4, 1874 to Mrs. Sarah Caroline Foster Lucas who was born March 23, 1845 and died March 25, 1931. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee the daughter of Edwin Foster. She had also been previously married and had one child, Reverend W.T. Lucas of Tulsa OK, from her first marriage. Sarah "Caline" applied for a war pension on June 17, 1924 which stated she was 79 years old and that she had married J.T. Lambert in 1871 in Pontotoc County.
