Hi I have been hitting a brick wall for a long time in my search for the family of BARNABAS MCCOLLUM. Census data in Giles Cty Tennessee shows his birth place to be North Carolina. We think it may be in an area that was N Carolina and later became part of Tennessee. I am trying to identify is parents. One possiblity is JOHN MCCOLLUM who was found in Warren Cty Tennessee in the early 1800's. Barnabas was born in 1802. He had a brother named Curtis and another possibly named James. Does anyone have any helpful clues or suggestions about were I can find information about Barnabas? Thanks Joanne in Seattle

Looking for information on Jesse and Joshua Caudle. In about 1810 to 1824 Joshua and Jesse were members of the Rock Creek Primitive Baptist church. I believe this was in Murry County. He was also sent to the Shiloah Baptist Church. I have reviewed the microfilm on the Rock Creek Baptist Church. Trying to find out when they left TN and went to KY and then on to Illinois. Does someone know if the genealogy Libray and or Society have a list of what books or newspapers reels are available for inter library loan? Would someone send me the address and phone number of the Murray County Genealogy society? Also the genealogy library address and phone number. Thanks for the help. Avie
The following are listed in a very old copy of “Tennessee and Tennesseans” most are within the time period of the mid to late 1800’s and early 1900’s. There is a multitude of them and I can’t possibly type out each biography. So if any of these sound interesting I am willing to photocopy and mail to you if you could please send me a self-addressed stamped envelope. Most are apx 500-1000 words long. There is a wealth of information in these as many name the parentage and location, as well as birth dates of each. Please notify me if you are sending a request so I will know to look for it. Thanks and hopefully this will help someone Sorry, no queries since I don't have time to do look ups. Send request to Joyce Reece, 435 Cooper Street, Etowah, Tennessee 37331. NO CHARGE! Among my participants is an 86 year of age retired school teacher name Emory Robert Overley. He does not have a computer but is very interested in this thread of conversation you folks are having concerning this surname. Is it possible for one of you to send me a family lineage that I could print and give to him. His Overley's were in north eastern Kentucky and also had ties to the Galbraith/Galbreath's. He is writing down all he can concerning his parents and grandparents and he is hoping one of you can find a link for him. Is it possible? Trying to find some information about my great aunt. The only thing I have been able to find was in the 1880 census for Hawkins county tn. Her name was SARAH E. (SALLY) LAMBERT d/o Thomas Jefferson Lambert, she was 16 years old at that time. I don't know when, who,or where she married. Don't know when she died or buried. Any help of any kind is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Billy Pierce

Looking for an ancestor, Lela Stringer, daughter of Julius Stringer and Elizabeth Pittman. She was born in Marion County, Mississippi after 1879 and probably before 1900 and died in Tennessee. She married W. Carrol Dixon with whom she moved with to Tennessee. They had a child, Billy Carrol Dixon. This is about all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Christopher Powell P.O. I have a George Washington Farmer, born 1901 ~ he's a "dead end". Guess he's too late to be yours, huh? Toni
Hi List My first posting. I have a Great grandfather who died in Tennessee about June 1905. That is the only info I have, no town or county. Question; is it possible to get a state wide death search, if so where and how do I apply? Many Thanks for any assistance. Al Campbell
Re: My book, "The Descendants of Stephen Farmer" subtitled "The Harlan County Years" is ready for FINAL EDIT... I have a Julia Farmer from my line. 1880 Benton Co. census has her son J. Silvester Williams age 26 and his wife Kisiah age 18 and their daughter Florence Lee age 2/12 months born in April (my ggreat grandmother). Julia Farmer was married to a Washington Farmer (2nd husband) (Williams being her first husband) Does this match any of your info? Lori Mullesch
My book, "The Descendants of Stephen Farmer" subtitled "The Harlan County Years" is ready for FINAL EDIT... There are more than 100 different surnames covered in this book ~ If you even THINK you might have Harlan County ancestors, PLEASE contact me. I would appreciate if you would be willing to take a "once over" on your families section to verify my accuracy and make additions if you wish. If your line doesn't appear in my book, I am willing to look up ANYTHING you might need in the 1830 through 1880 Census records (I'm sorry, but I had to borrow the 1900 and 1910 myself and have returned them to the owner.) Also, PLEASE forward this email to any lists you may be on that may have Harlan County ancestors.... Publishing date is pending ~ but aiming for the first week of FEBRUARY, 2001. Thank you so much for your assistance with this matter ~ and for your friendship and understanding through a very difficult time in my life.... Also, I am STILL in need of photographs ~ please check your personal libraries for allied families of the FARMER bunch. Toni Farmer Harlan, KY
Hi you all, I received this in the email through another list and thought all might enjoy it. Thanks for all the help you have given me God Bless Louise Genealogist's Christmas Eve (Twas the Night Before Christmas) 'Twas the night before Christmas When all through the house Not a creature was stirring, Not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote; Sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and such Were proof that my work had become too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop >From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills, While others bought gifts to bring Christmas cheers, I'd spent time researching those birth dates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright/Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and yanked up the sash. When what with my wondering eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleigh and with eight small reindeer. Up to the house top the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys and 'lo Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs, As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa--KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good 'lo Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk.) Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy: When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you," Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amusement--the cover it read Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead. "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug." He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folk who can't find a thing." "Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard his exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!"
Joyce, You pop up in the strangest places! I've been on this list a long time and have never seen anyone asking about these names so got excited when I saw them! Ha. Many on this list are also on AR roots as so many from TN moved on across the MS river. It's sleeting here now and I have to go to Mailboxes and get some things on their way. Hope you got your pictures and albums where you want them. Cynthia
Joyce Riggs, I saw your message and two of the names stuck out for me. My ggg grandfather Henry F. George in the 1850 census was living in Lincoln County, TN with Hardin and Delia Hampton. Delia's maiden name was Pigg. Henry was a farm laborer and I assume he was working for Hardin. Also living with Hardin and Delia was a young man named Thomas Clift. I don't know if Thomas are Delia were related to my Henry, but since you mention both the name Clift and Pigg...it just stuck out for me. Tricia
