    3. Steve Jackie has a point in her email...Southeast Tennessee and much of northeast Ga was still Indian land until 1817-18...the only white settlers were the ones who had either married into the tribes or had a special dispensation from the council to live on their lands. Whites weren't even allowed to travel across the lands without special permission. 2. There was a map I found that showed North Carolina and South Carolina in 1794 where Tennessee is now. Try http://www.genealogy.com/users/b/o/w/Ludema-Bowles/PHOTO/0012photo.html. Georgia is shown directly below SC. Maybe this will help you in finding your family before Tennessee. Joanne in Texas

    3. My gggfather and gggmother, John and Nancy Robinson/Robison Family lived in Bradley County TN during the 1870, 1860, 1850 and possibly 1840 census. Before 1836, Bradley county was Indian territory, and I have no idea where they lived before that. According to the records that I can find, He was born in Tennessee and she in Georgia. The area of Bradley County in which they lived is very near the Red Clay GA area, so that one isn't much of a stretch. Now the real question comes in where were they before that? Tombstones say that he was born in 1812 and she in 1822. I did find an entry for them in the IGI that said that he was born in 1809. In any case, it was in that time frame! I would appreciate any assistance anyone could offer. I have a very large amount of information regarding this line after John and Nancy, but none before. Steve Robinson Ooltewah TN
