A porch stretched across the front facing west and another across the back. The second home in Chapel Hill, AR had a breezeway. The old home site faced the OK line which was about ten yards from the front door. Beyond this point was the frontier. Dangers were numerous and abounded especially from the indians. He was described as a stern, respected (even feared) individual, who was capable of violence. Although he was authoritative and fearless, he had a sense of humor and was community minded. It was reported that he once killed an indian in a dispute over a milk cow and that he killed another individual who was crossing his property. After he buried this person, he confiscated the dead man's horse, saddle, bridle and spurs. Pompie Franklin Johnson had the spurs; but they were lost eventually. He donated land and building materials to construct the Westline School. His father's name on his death certificate is Robert Johnson; his mother's name is not given. His place of birth is given as Missouri on the death record of Charles Parker Johnson; although the preponderence of evidence suggests Tennessee.
