Hi Neighbor Mary and I live in the FM 1960 area (NW suburban Houston) Am not sure what you mean by Roane County Family History webpage? In my personal opinion, these are the most helpful sites for general information (in other words, not on a specific family). Not necessarily in any particular order: The Roane Heritage Commission site has general information of all kinds, but very little on family *trees*. It is packed with info. Books for sale by Bailey Publishing are best available! Trust me. Darleen Trent offers research services. I have used her, and been very pleased. Jamey McLaughlin has put in many, many volunteer hours to make this site available to us. We are so fortunate to have a forward-thinking County Historian, Robert Bailey! The TNGenRoane site has general information, and especially good for queries. New stuff being added. Am sure you are familiar with it. My Roots of Roane site is mostly about Families, and a few misc. general articles and links. I have a list of books offered by the Roane Gen. Society. Their 1850 census book is best book you can find (still my opinion). Sandy Eskew has a lot of Families, and other info on her site. GenForum has a TN and a Roane County query site that I think is excellent. I especially like the surname boards at GenForum. Family Tree Maker has a Query site, and I don't much like the way it is arranged, but it is certainly worth looking at from time to time. I think it is called Genealogy.com now? And I have the Oliver Springs Historical Society too, if that area is of interest, but again, no Families. They do sell two of Snyder Roberts' books, a VANN book, and some other things. Most of the above have links to each other. There are a number of excellent personal home pages devoted to one or more Families. I link them when I know about them, and think there is enough about Roane County to be of interest to my visitors. Believe Sandy does too. If looking for early settlers in particular, one should not overlook Knox, Anderson, Morgan, Rhea counties--all of which have good information either on the GenWeb site, or linked to it. Various degrees of Family info there. Edna Clack has great site, as do several others. The Anderson Co. site links to several family pages. There are certainly other sites, such as Cyndislist, etc., that have information about Roane, but as far as I can tell, they mostly link back to the above-mentioned sites. Couldn't hurt to check them out though. And don't forget about FamilySearch. It is my understanding the SW Point DAR is in the process of making a new web site. They may have some info on their patriots, which would be nice. The lady who is going to do the site is highly skilled and qualified in web building, so I look forward to seeing what she publishes. For more recent times, the Obit section of Knoxville News and the Oak Ridger are worth checking every so often. The Roane County News has less info, but also worth a peek. (I was just looking at the Oak Ridger yesterday, and saw an article about at explosion at Y-12 that was scary. I hope all that turns out okay. ) And, if you are lucky enough to go there, as Mary did, try to save time for the McClung library in Knoxville too. The online site does not have any Family info that I have found though. And send me photos! :-) Hope I haven't left something out. If so, it's just another Senior Moment.
