Anyone familiar with the Roane County area.. I need to know the name of an Island that is in Clinch River. I don't have any sense of direction when I'm there so I can't tell you the compass direction... When you are going down the river after leaving Melton Hill Dam.. There are a few islands right in that area going toward Kingston. I first large island is Jones Island The next one is a small and large one which is Grubb Island. After you go around the curve there is another island... I need to know the name of that island... Any help is appreciated. Wanda
Hi, The following web site is for the Tennessee River, it may be of some help in locating the Clinch Islands since the Kingston Lake is on the Clinch river. The site is for the Corp of Engineers at Nashville. http://www.orn.usace.army.mil/ The TVA quadrangle maps have several islands listed. The names listed on the Corp of Engineers maps and the TVA maps sometimes have different names for the same island. An example is on the Loudon and Roane County section of the Tennessee River for the Matlock Bend area. The TVA maps show an island as Matlock Island and the Corp of Engineers shows the same island as Bogart Island. The Corp of Engineers list "lights" by surname also. There is a map room at the University of Tenn. in Knoxville at a library. It is in the basement of same building where the Estes Keffaufer Special Collections Room is upstairs. It contains some maps prior to the dams being built, etc. The Delormer Maps are also good but do not show as many details as the TVA maps. Leota
Leota, Thanks for the "The site is for the Corp of Engineers at Nashville". Thought it was great that it also had the cemeteries on it. Very helpful.
