    3. Ken, your posting is a good example of how researchers should double check everything they find on the Internet against public records. Indeed, Geo. W. Short is found in the 12th District of 1860 Roane. I carelessly looked at the date - 14th August - instead of the District. Incidentally, listed next door to Geo. W. Short in 1860 is Rob't. P. Short 21 TN farming, and Almira T. 20. One would assume he is the son shown in 1850 census, newly married? I did not find the marriage records for Robert on my CD. However, I did find a marriage for Nancy R. Short to George W. Frazier in 7 Nov. 1860 Roane. Recall this man, 25-year old physician, was living in the household of George W. and Eliza Short. Nancy R. fits with the 1850 Rhea census, but seems not to be listed in 1860?? Poor thing--they overlooked her. Or does the film show her? I have a page on my website about Roane ironworks. http://www.roanetn.com/ironwk.htm It is copied from Roots of Roane County, TN by Snyder E. Roberts. There is no mention of Gordon, and I would be pleased to add this pioneer to the page if you would like to submit some data.
