Crossville Chronicle obit... Vernon H. Hayes March 5, 1921 - Aug. 17, 2002 Vernon H. Hayes, 81, of Rockwood, TN, passed away Aug. 17, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 19 from the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, with Bro. Bob Holder and the Rev. J.C. McCoy officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held today, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr. Hayes was born March 5, 1921, in Cumberland County, the son of Jess Preston and Melissa Derrick Hayes. He was a retired forestry technician with the Tennessee Division of Forestry, with 25 years of service. He was a member of Daysville Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, June Hayes of the Daysville community of Rockwood; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Donna Hayes of Westel; daughter and son-in-law, Jane Elizabeth and Carl Butler of Harriman; grandchildren, Melissa Anne Hayes, Jason Butler and Travis Butler; four great-grandchildren; and a special cousin and his wife, Harvey and Helen Derrick of Crossville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Jessica Hayes, Sarah Hayes and James Brandon Hayes; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Largen Hayes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 E. Adams St., Crossville TN 38555. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood is in charge of the arrangements.
