I've been led to believe census takers were the most literate people in an area. This does not mean they would win a spelling bee in school. On numerous occasions, I've discovered my ancestors names had been mispelled. I bring this up, because I have FRIEZE family members I, distantly, connect to. The FRIEZE family members came from Greene/Knox County, TN, however, the ancestors I connect to came from Roane County, TN. I have also seen the spelling FREEZE as well.
