    1. [TNROANE] HENDRICKSON and GENTRY help needed, 1800s
    2. Valerie
    3. Hello everyone, I've posted before but have a little more information and am hoping someone might be able to help me. I'll start with what I know and work from there... My great-grandmother's name was Rose Anna GENTRY b. Harriman July 1, 1889 On her SS application, her parents are listed as John Black GENTRY and Ella Margaret HENDRICKSON (although it is spelled HENDERKISON on the application). I've found a marriage record for John B. GENTRY and Mary E. HENDRICKSON for Roane Nov 14, 1886. There is also a headstone at Dyllis with M.E. GENTRY, wife of JB GENTRY b. Dec 21, 1870, d. May 24, 1907. Shortly after her death, the rest of the family moved to Oregon. And so my confusion begins. I have nothing further on John Black GENTRY at all. I have two possibilities for Ella/Mary/M.E., made interesting by the fact that she used different names. In my records, I have likely parents for her has Samuel and Ellen HENDRICKSON, but no documentation. In the 1880 census, there is a Benjamin HENDRICKSON and wife Sarah with a daughter named Ellen M., listed at 8yrs old (close). Sarah is too young (21) on that census to be the mother of the children listed, so I went back to 1870 and found Benjamin with wife Martha and the older kids (Ella/ME wasn't born yet). Also listed on the 1870 census are Samuel HENDRICKSON and his wife Ellen (already 56 and 53... a little old to still be having children?) with a daughter Mary E listed at 13yrs old. So I think Benjamin and Martha are Ella/Mary/ME's parents, and perhaps Samuel and Ellen are Benjamin's parents? I have Benjamin born about 1835, so if this is true, Samuel and Ellen should be on the 1840/1850 censuses with Benjamin (or a tick mark in the correct column). Does anyone have easy access to these? The index on the Roane county site references 1840 p47 for HENDRIXSON and 1850 p371B-372A for HENDRICKSON. Alternately, does anyone have wills or probate records for Samuel or Benjamin that might shed some light? Any idea what Martha's maiden name was? I apologize for the overload, I greatly appreciate any help at all. I think I've exhausted the resources I have available with accumulating large bills. Valerie Jordan Booden
