I know this is a vague question, so sorry, but I cannot find the old letter that mentions this subject. Sometime in the 1830s or 40s, there was something called the "Hiw...... Purchase" and one of our ancestors was in the army that "removed the Indians" from that area after the government purchased it. My impression was that this land was in Roane county.
