TN m: 03 Feb 1848 in Roane Co. TN d: Aft. 1870 Father: Robert Samuel Roberts Mother: Margaret Gardner Snyder E. Roberts, Roberts Families of Roane County, TN, 1967, page 121 Eli (probably Elias) Roberts was born August 22, 1830 in Roane County, TN. He married Martha Ann Hagler, the daughter of John Hagler. Very little information can be found in the records regarding Eli and his family. Eli and Mary Ann are shown in the Roane County 1850 census as living in the household with John and Patsy Hagler, and as being the parents of one boy. They do not appear again in Roane County census records, nor have any military records been found concerning him. In the settling of his father's estate in January 1876 (Book W, page 402), reference is made to Eli's family thusly--"Andy and Houston Roberts and their Mother and other brothers, names and numbers unknown." The dates of deaths, and places of burial are not known........ I received this email message some time ago. Martha "Patsy" McCaleb was the dau of ARCHIBALD (not John) McCaleb of Knox Co TN. She was the sister of my husband's ancestor James Newton McCaleb. James Newton McCaleb m Susannah Hope and when they apparently left Roane CO c1849/50 they left one of their children with Martha Ann Hagler and her husband...Martha Ann being the child's first cousin. I have not located James N and Susannah (or the child) later so maybe Martha Ann and family joined the McCalebs wherever they went to later.
