I have done a book on the Underwoods going back a number of generations from Enoch. My husband desc. from Enoch's sister who lived at Post Oak. I did the 2nd Underwood book because I couldn't show the records that are proven on the Underwoods. As for the Owings I imagine they are buried at the Old Post Oak cemetery here in Roane Co. because Edward was instrumental in starting the church.. Edward was the son of William Owens/Owings who wrote several letters to another of our Roane Co. line back in 1790/1800 era. He lived in Burke Co., N. C. at the time. I have Owings friends here and a neighbor who lived across the street had the Sumpter line. She said they connected to Gen. Thomas Sumpter. My husband had an off shoot of his line who married a sister of Thomas but I haven't tracked tham. I am looking for a person or persons who can direct me to a location to find paperwork relating to Edward Owings (b. 1766 VA, d. 1857 TN), his wife Elizabeth Sumpter (b. 1763 VA, d. bef 1850 TN), their daughter Sarah "Sally" Owings (b. 1802 TN, m. 1830 TN, d. 1899 MO), and Sarah's husband Enoch Underwood (b. 1802 SC, d. 1879 MO). Sally and Enoch left Roane CO about 1842 for Polk CO, MO, but all their children were born in Roane CO before they left. I would also appreciate if anyone knows where Edward and Elizabeth are buried. Samuel Sumpter Owings was their son, but I'm not sure if he and they were buried in the same place. I do believe that Edward's son William and daughter Polly are buried on the old home place, but I don't know where that is, other than near Kingsport. Any help would be appreciated. My Hinds book has a lot of letters written by Eli Hinds and Elizabeth Longacre to his father her in Roane Co. He speaks of the children of Benj. Jr. etc. My book has about 200-300 original records of the Hinds family with many letter of thise that had left here. I sell the book. I asl $50.00 plus $5.00 for pkg, mailing and insurance. It has a lot of the genealogy of the Higgins and Skaggs family who connected. If you bring up www.roanetnheritage.com and click on books you will see the list of books that I have done. There might be some of your other families. Do you know anything of Benj. Sr. I believe I have run across him with other families. Hello everyone, Just wanted to share my family lines as they relate to Roane County. They include: Robert KELSAY and Rachel BALL (could be BELL?), parents of Mary M. (or could be Sarah M.) KELSAY who married James Knox Polk YATES in 1861. Miles and Deborah (Holmes) YATES were married in 1840 and their son was J.K.P. YATES, b. 1842. Deborah Holmes' parents were John and Lydia (Register) HOLMES. John and Lydia had at least 9 children. John and Lydia came from Greene county, TN to Roane County, probably around 1840. Surnames associated with the Holmes family are: PHILLIPS, REINHART, MORRISON and BOWMAN. I do not know the names of some of of the wives of the sons. Francis was married to Lucy ??? and they had two daughters, Malinda and Mary. Son William lived in Shelby County, AL. JKP Yates' son James William Milburn Yates married a BREEDLOVE in Howell County, MO in 1885. JKP's daughter Myra also went to MO with her brother James and died of T.B. in 1888. The daughter left behind in TN was Lydia, and she married Clement CLARK in 1888, Roane county. I have much more on the Holmes family than I do on the Yates lines. It begins with Miles Yates and that is all I know. I have a lot of information on the Kelsay family too. And Lydia Register's family has been researched too, to some extent. If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me. I would be happy to share information, etc. Thanks! Cheryl, I don't know anything about the Llewlyn family that you posted..But in time I may research them... But am most interested in the Loyce Grubb that you mentioned. I have seen this marriage and the 1850 census for Loyce and Catherine. Do you know who Loyce and Loyd Grubb are that were in Monroe County, TN in 1850? Where did they come from and who are their parents... After 1850 I don't know where they moved too. Thanks. Searhing mainly for the Ayres side of this family. John Ayres married Martha Jane Perrine 2 July 1829 in Roane Co., TN. She was the daughter of Matthew Perrine and Elizabeth Longacre. Elizabeths father Benjamin Sr. was judge in Roane Co. about 1820 or before. John is to have been born in either TN or KY. Looking for any info about John Ayres' parents. I am looking for a LewAllen/LouAllan/Llewlyn Tucker family in Roane Co, prior to 1839. I believe his wife's name was Jane and they had 7 kids, Catherine who married Loyce Grubbs 26 Jan 1842 in Roane Co, Armstead who married Elizabeth Billingsley 23 Mar 1843 in Roane Co, Joseph Pascal who married Mary Yearwood in 1850 location unknown, John W who married Mary Alice Stpehens 4 July 1847 possibly Roane Co, Thomas who I have no information on, LewAllen/Allen Harvie who married Elvirie Roark location unknown, Robert who married Siotha. The senior Llewlyn died in 1839 between ages of 60-69, which leads me to possibly believe this may have been a second family for him. Also in the 1850 census, there is a Henry Hastings listed as a stepbrother...which again makes me think of this as a second family. In my immediate family, there is speculation about Llewlyn being a brother to Robert Tucker born abt 1775-1780. The only thing I can confirm is the existence of the family and the death date, any more than that is specualtion. Anyone have any connections??? I also am looking for a William & Catherine Keeling in Roane Co. William was born abt 1808 in NC, county unknown at this time. Catherine may have gone by the name of Katy Burnett/Barnett prior to marriage which was in Lewis Co, 26 Aug 1826. Catherine was born abt 1805 in SC, county unknown at this time. Any information anyone has on this couple would be gratefully appreciated...I have enough brick walls. They were the parents of 3 boys and 4 girls, George, John Dudley, William Carroll, Rhoda Jane, Nancy O, Louisa and Catharine. William and Catherine ended their lives in Barry Co, MO as did Rhoda who married William John Davidson. Naturally I am unable to fill in the blanks prior to their marriage in Lewis Co. Thank you Leota, I will go take a look at the site and see if I can find the name. I went to our Library yesterday and looked at their large maps and that Island didn't have a name on it... Hi, The following web site is for the Tennessee River, it may be of some help in locating the Clinch Islands since the Kingston Lake is on the Clinch river. The site is for the Corp of Engineers at Nashville. http://www.orn.usace.army.mil/ The TVA quadrangle maps have several islands listed. The names listed on the Corp of Engineers maps and the TVA maps sometimes have different names for the same island. An example is on the Loudon and Roane County section of the Tennessee River for the Matlock Bend area. The TVA maps show an island as Matlock Island and the Corp of Engineers shows the same island as Bogart Island. The Corp of Engineers list "lights" by surname also. There is a map room at the University of Tenn. in Knoxville at a library. It is in the basement of same building where the Estes Keffaufer Special Collections Room is upstairs. It contains some maps prior to the dams being built, etc. The Delormer Maps are also good but do not show as many details as the TVA maps. Leota

Thanks Sandy, Yes... I'm in contact with a gentleman who works at one of the plants.. He's keeping in contact with me on the updates with the situation. He seems to think that we will still be able to have the reunion at the church, but may have to have a pass as you said. If things don't work out there I've reserved a Pavilion at Melton Hill so that we can at least have a place to go. Wanda, Is the Grubb reunion going to be at the New Bethel Baptist church again this year since Bethel Valley Road has been closed to the public. I know they are issuing passes to visitors but I didn't know how much of a problem this would be for the reunion. Carolyn, Wanted to let you know that I am up to Chapter 10, and totally spell-bound! What a great story, and a wonderful legacy for you. Wanda, Descendants of Samuel Hembree now own the property my g-g-grandfather Samuel Woolsey owned near Swan Pond. Viola Hembree is present owner. Her sons also live in the same vicinity.
