I know some Owings are buried at Post Oak, but I don't know about Edward and Elizabeth. Gen Thomas Sum(p)ter was Elizabeth's uncle, and her father was Capt. William Sumpter. I'd be interested in knowing why you think Edward's father was William Owings, because it has been proved that Bezaleel Owings was Edward's father. I did the 2nd Underwood book because I couldn't show the records that are proven on the Underwoods. As for the Owings I imagine they are buried at the Old Post Oak cemetery here in Roane Co. because Edward was instrumental in starting the church.. Edward was the son of William Owens/Owings who wrote several letters to another of our Roane Co. line back in 1790/1800 era. He lived in Burke Co., N. C. at the time. I have Owings friends here and a neighbor who lived across the street had the Sumpter line. She said they connected to Gen. Thomas Sumpter. My husband had an off shoot of his line who married a sister of Thomas but I haven't tracked tham. Hello, I have a Nathaniel Thomas Davis(b.abt.1811KY) that married Malinda Oden (b.1813TN, probably Roane co.). They married in 1831. They named one of their sons James Isham Davis. I wonder if there is a connection somewhere, being as families seemed to name after each other's kin. Thanks, Brenda > Hi Brenda and All, I have often wondered if Ann Smith was the daughter of the William Smith who married Eleander Collier in 1820 in Roane Co., TN. I believe he was the father of my 2 gr grandfather, Joshua Smith, b. 1822 who married Eliza Joiner in 1844 in Roane Co. I was kinda thinking that Ann Smith, Joseph Smith and Joshua Smith were brothers and sisters. Eliza Joiner was the daughter of Charlton Joiner. Her brother William E. Joiner married Laurinda Owings, daughter of Alfred George Owings and Mary Long. Alfred George Owings was the son of Edward Owings and Elizabeth Sumpter. This kinda goes with the discussion, also on this list of the Owings family. Joshua Smith must have died by 1855 or so, because Eliza Joiner, along with her SMITH children and her parents, Charlton and Elizabeth Joiner went to Franklin Co. MO to join her brother, William E. Joiner and Laurinda Owings. William E. Joiner and Laurinda Owings wound up in Pulaski Co., MO where they both died in 1882. I know I am rambling, but OWINGS, JOINERs and SMITHs were closely related and seemed to live around Joiner Hollow in Roane Co. Best regards, Joanna Smith Dunn

Henry Isham and Ann Smith md. March 09, 1847 in Roane County, Tennessee. Does any one have any idea what might have happened to this couple? Do they have any descendants? Ann might have been related to Joseph Smith who married Elizabeth Isham on March 11, 1847 also in Roane Co. Thanks, Brenda __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'm really grasping at straws here, trying to find out where exactly my ancestors were located between 1795 & about 1812. I know that Human came fron GA in abt. 1795 to Knox Co. but I don't know where in Knox. The county was huge then compared to now. He is mentioned in some histories as being in Roane & I know he was up in the Burrville, Sunbright, Deer Lodge area of what is now Morgan County by about 1812. His 1st wife, Wineford, was widow of Thomas Gilliam, brother of Devereaux Gilliam, who is mentioned in most histories of Knox Co. As near as I can tell, both Gilliams & Georges came from Virginia, possibly by way of NC and or GA. If anybody knows for sure, and can prove where Solomon Gerron was in 1797, that will tell me where my Bazell Human was, since they both signed Bazell's marriage bond. If you can give me any evidence or clues that I can verify with original documents on my next trip to E. TN, I'd really appreciate it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kay Lamb Sent: Saturday, March 09, 2002 8:15 AM To: TNROANE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNROANE] Edward Owings, et al Our line that came into Knox Co. and then Roane had some George connections in Knox or Grainger Co., Tn.
