    2. I would be very interested in the book. Does it mention names specifically or is it a general history. I am researching the Anderson and Thompson family of which I do have some info. But I would be very interested. Nancy Teters

    1. [TNROANE] History of Roane County, by Emma Wells 1927
    2. Hello, While searching for my early east Tennessee Cowan line I used a book titled, "History of Roane County Tennessee 1801-1870," Lookout Publishing Co., Chattanooga, Tn., 1927 which is almost impossible to locate. I am now finished with it and will pass it one to the next researcher for the same price I paid for it. $125.00 which includes shipping. If anyone is interested please e-mail me at cscunc@aol.com for details. Thanks, Robert Cowan 525 Harrogate Rd. Matthews, North Carolina 28105

    3. I'm researching in Roane County the families surnamed: Clark-Pope-Brackett-Lane-Hodges-Parker- Some were "original settlers" but all were there by the early 1800's... My major enigma is the Clark branch.... My NATHANIEL CLARK's parents are a mystery... We know his 2 older sisters were born in Tennessee... i. CHARITY CLARK, b. 1815, Tennessee; d. Tennessee; m. NEVER MARRIED. ii. CAROLINE CLARK, b. 1818, Tennessee; d. Tennessee; m. NEVER MARRIED. but the next four children were born in Kentucky.. iii. CASWELL CLARK, b. 1820, Kentucky; m. MATHILDA JOLLEY, 20 Nov 1838, Tennessee. iv. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN CLARK, b. 1822, Kentucky; m. SARAH JANE MARTIN, 27 Aug 1838, Tennessee. v. NATHANIEL CLARK, b. 1823, Kentucky; d. 1884, Hunt Co., Texas .m. MARTHA(PATSY)BRACKETT 25 Sep 1848 in Roane County, Tennessee vi. ISAAC ALEXANDER CLARK, b. 1824, Kentucky. m. MARY ANN MCKENRY 04 Mar 1849 in Tennessee. vii. STEPHEN CLARK, b. 1832, Roan e Co., TN.; ; d. Bet. 1860 - 1870, Civil War. m. HANNAH Unknown; b. 1835, Roane County, TN. So they were back in Roane County by 1832... I'm in desperate need of parents for this family..... Thanx so much, Joyce Clark Foster

    3. I am researching my family tree. It goes back to John Clifton in Franklin County in the mid-1800s. However, I have a pension application of one of the children saying he was born in Rhea county. I have discovered Rowena Goolsby's parents (she is wife of John Clifton). However, I have not connected John. I know that Bailey Clifton lived in Roane or Rhea county and one list I have found has a John Redick Clifton as son of his, and the ages would be about right. If anyone could connect these two, it would be of great help. Thank you. Ken Clifton poetsoulken@netscape.net

    3. Yes;There was always an Odd Fellows organization in Rockwood. I have several of the pictures. If you will look at some of the tombstones in the cem's you will see their emblem. My father Andy Harvey was a member. No, you did not have to be a member to be buried there.
