Hello everyone, I've posted before but have a little more information and am hoping someone might be able to help me. I'll start with what I know and work from there... My great-grandmother's name was Rose Anna GENTRY b. Harriman July 1, 1889 On her SS application, her parents are listed as John Black GENTRY and Ella Margaret HENDRICKSON (although it is spelled HENDERKISON on the application). I've found a marriage record for John B. GENTRY and Mary E. HENDRICKSON for Roane Nov 14, 1886. There is also a headstone at Dyllis with M.E. GENTRY, wife of JB GENTRY b. Dec 21, 1870, d. May 24, 1907. Shortly after her death, the rest of the family moved to Oregon. And so my confusion begins. I have nothing further on John Black GENTRY at all. I have two possibilities for Ella/Mary/M.E., made interesting by the fact that she used different names. In my records, I have likely parents for her has Samuel and Ellen HENDRICKSON, but no documentation. In the 1880 census, there is a Benjamin HENDRICKSON and wife Sarah with a daughter named Ellen M., listed at 8yrs old (close). Sarah is too young (21) on that census to be the mother of the children listed, so I went back to 1870 and found Benjamin with wife Martha and the older kids (Ella/ME wasn't born yet). Also listed on the 1870 census are Samuel HENDRICKSON and his wife Ellen (already 56 and 53... a little old to still be having children?) with a daughter Mary E listed at 13yrs old. So I think Benjamin and Martha are Ella/Mary/ME's parents, and perhaps Samuel and Ellen are Benjamin's parents? I have Benjamin born about 1835, so if this is true, Samuel and Ellen should be on the 1840/1850 censuses with Benjamin (or a tick mark in the correct column). Does anyone have easy access to these? The index on the Roane county site references 1840 p47 for HENDRIXSON and 1850 p371B-372A for HENDRICKSON. Alternately, does anyone have wills or probate records for Samuel or Benjamin that might shed some light? Any idea what Martha's maiden name was? I apologize for the overload, I greatly appreciate any help at all. I think I've exhausted the resources I have available with accumulating large bills. Valerie Jordan Booden

I just received a query from a lady in Tennessee concerning the burial records of the Paint Rock Baptist Church during the mid 1800's... She has been told they burned in the 1950's.. Is this true? If not where would we find them.................. Thanx, Joyce GOD BLESS AMERICA and OUR SONS & DAUGHTERS WHO SERVE IN THE MILITARY AND PROTECT THEM FROM OUR ENEMIES... This came from another list however, the information could be someone from Roane County. Leota <snip> 1860 Independence Co., AR Census, Black River Township, Walnut Grove Post Office: 1288/1277 COPELAND, John 87, NC Margaret 76, GA Mahala 39, TN Jane C. 32, TN Harriett 30, TN Richard E. 27, TN Melina 25, TN <snip>
I am looking for early 1800 to 1840 marriage information on the following people, all were children of Isaac and Mary McPherson: 1. George W. McPherson / Mary (possibly Kitchens) 2. Isaac McPherson, Jr. / Elizabeth Kennedy 3. Cely (?) McPherson / Bennett Norman (or Norman Bennett?) 4. Enos M. McPherson / Mahala J. Daugherty or a Mary Keeland 5. Lewis A. McPherson / a Rachel ? 6. Jane (or Jenny) McPherson / William F. Willis 7. Mary E. or F McPherson / James L. Taylor 8. Joseph McPherson / Martha Amanda Scott 9. William McPherson to ???? I have found spelled names of these people as Macpherson, McPerson, McFerson, Ferson, Pearson, etc.,etc., and I suspect that this may be part of my problem of not locating them in the 1800-1840 time frame. I really don't know where any of these people were married but I suspect that some were married in Roane or neighboring counties between 1810 and 1840. And I think that by 1840 most of them had already departed that area for parts unknown. Any information will be appreciated. Paul WhitePaul@aol.com

Hi Pat, YOUR head hurts! I'm just glad my great grannie ( Tressie Matilda) got out of there by the skin of her teeth! By the way, do you know if the Silveys and the Sylveys are the same clan (in Roane) I have just discovered Sylveys on my Edwards line! Kidding aside, what a knot, there should be a prize! Regards, Bev Gray \J
Yes, name spelled different ways. My direct ancestors were Thomas Silvey and Elizabeth Edwards. I'd love to know her parents. I think they are yours too.
