This might be of mild interest to you. Must be same guy. It is from an article about Nighbert's Hotel in Oliver Springs. The hotel burned, and later a brick house built on the property. Then that burned, and my grandfather bought the land, and my parents built a house. It's where I grew up. "In the meantime, the Nighberts entered into a sale-lease agreement with an Indian doctor named P. Medekle for the brick bungalow in Oliver Springs. Dr. P. Medekle established a sanitarium in the large brick house, which attained a considerable reputation. He used medicines mainly extracted from native herbs and plants, and particularly attracted cancer patients from a wide area. Jerry Bass, who was alleged to be half-Indian, worked with Dr. P. Medekle, and apparently learned the treatments for cancers because he continued the treatments on an itinerant basis for many years. Dr. P. Medekle had a son, Olie, and a daughter, Zona, who were active in town affairs. His widow, Verna Medekle (1879-1949) continued to live in Oliver Springs until her death. The large brick bungalow burned in the late 1920's (possibly from spontaneous combustion of dry herbs stored in the basement) which brought an end to the operation of the sanitarium. Dr. P. Medekle was reported to have died in KY. " *The Story of Oliver Springs, TN And Its People, Vol II* by Snyder E. The mother of my aunt (by marriage) was Arie LEFFEW, from Roane County. I'm not researching this family, but I do have some information from pictures & papers that belonged to my aunt, if anyone is interested. Ann ---------- >Hey did someone call me? Well here I am and willing to help with Leffew,Duff >or any other of my many Roane County surnames. ---------- >> Do you know Brenda Duff.....? She has LEFFEW & DUFF .I had a uncle named >> MARION LEFFEW , son of PLESANT HENRY LEFFEW...Are these familiar ?
Do you have any information on Paint Rock Baptist Church? My ggggrandmother, Nancy BALDWIN, was a member there from 1830s until her death in 1900. I understand that all the records for the church were destroyed in a fire. Nancy's daughter, Malinda, married Thomas BRACKETT, who were my gggrandparents. The BRACKETT family is found in the same neighborhood with the POPES, and one of the BRACKETTS married a POPE. Then, my grandmother, granddaughter of Thomas BRACKETT married Fred THOMAS, son of J.C. "Calaway" THOMAS, in Loudon County, and I haven't been able to find out who J.C. THOMAS' parents were. Do you have more information on THOMAS? Yep, Pat I believe it is the same one. I have his picture his grandson gave me. He is sitting down and has rattlesnake in his hand. My cousin said he carried one in his pocket. He was told that Dr Medekle rode a white horse where ever he went. I believe he may have died in or near Monticello , Ky. I find it odd that he had a daughter with a name that rhymed with his lover's name. Zona ...Nona and look the Z is an N turned sideways.. Ih , well one never knows. Thanks for the info ,my cousin Willis will be glad to get this info. Milly^i^ "This is the Season ....with a reason

Sandy when I went to your Christmas web site, there is no sound. I assume there is sound since Santa's feet, eyes and other body parts are moving to some kind of song. I checked my speakers, and they are working. Is there sound with this web site? Thank you for sharing such a cute site. I think this is first comment to this group and I think it is a very good group. Ray Cox put something in his message that more of us should be using. He put a GPS (Global Position System) 3548N and 0823W in his message about Cave Creek Church. Since all of us are reading this from a computer, we have access to Mapping Programs that will probably have a GPS location. In this TVA region of the country their are maps that TVA has made over the years, I was able to locate an old Norman (my Family) family cemetery that is off the main road. I used my personnel GPS instrument to walk back through a field and thru some woods and located the old cemetery. Just to look at this wooded area you could not readily tell this was a cemetery but after moving some limbs and leaves I found maybe 40 unmarked graves and about 6 that were marked. Enough was found to confirm this to be a Norman Family Cemetery. It was quite a discovery for me to my some of my earliest roots in Tennessee.. Paul Norman Ray Cox wrote: > >Where is Cave Creek? Vicki, Saw one of you ladies asking where Cave Creek is. Vicki I think you and I have talked before on the Tabitha Ingram that married David Price Thomas. I haven't found anything new. The closest town to Cave Creek is Kingston. There is not a town but it's just a community. Interstate 40 runs from Kingston to Knoxville. From Interstate 40 you turn on Gallaher Road you travel south until it comes to a dead end. Then turn left on Hwy 70, which is very curvey, go about 5 1/2 miles to Cave Creek Road. To get to the Church and Cemetery you drive about about 2 miles. Wanda
Doris, I really don't know where Cave Creek is, but would like to find out. If you run across a female PRICE who married a THOMAS, please let me know. I have a feeling David Price THOMAS's mother might have been a PRICE. All I know is that she probably came from TN while his father came from VA, possibly Pittsylvania Co. I have posted off and on for over 2 years now, but it's not stopping me from posting again. Some day, someone will have the info I need. I am searching for a MORTON family that had a James in it (born between 1780-1790) that ended up at some point living in Anderson County, TN. He is listed in that county's census for that year and was between 40-50 years of age. Trying desperately to find the proof that he might be my gg-grandfather, David MORTONs, parents. I have no idea who his parents were, but living nearby was a Tilda MORTON (older than this James) and she could also be the mother of our David. Thanks so much for checking your records. Nina
